Pregnant after IF

So THAT is a Braxton Hicks.

Well it appears the Braxton Hicks have started :/  I had cramping for about an hour around midnight last night and then when that passed I started waking up about every hour with my stomach getting really hard and uncomfortable.  Then when all that stopped I woke up bawling my eyes out at 5:30am.  I know I'm pregnant and all, but this is the first time I've cried for no reason so it was a little bit startling!

I called the nurse this morning just to make sure I didn't need to come in and she confirmed that it sounded like Braxton Hicks but if they get to a point where I can time them I need to call immediately.  I really hope this doesn't become a regular event.

Re: So THAT is a Braxton Hicks.

  • Fun HUH!

My doc told me 5 in an hour I need to be seen. My first round scared the crap out of me but she said she couldn't believe it took me 28 weeks to start feeling them. Good Luck...they seem to come everytime I don't want them to!

  • Haha, yes tons of fun.  I can totally see them coming at less than convenient times.  Ugghh.

  • Is it possible you were dehydrated?  That is weird you got them in the middle of the night.  I only seem to get them when I'm doing too much activity-walking too much, picking up around the house, etc.

  • I had my first ones last week. They were also at rest, it's not hot here, and I am drinking water. I thought it was his butt just pushing out but then I realized it was both sides of my belly. It's really weird.

  • Mine always start on my drive home from work...not fun on the interstate! Then they hang out the rest of the night, on average 2 an hour...I don't get them during the day.

  • The nurse mentioned drinking more water (I'm already drinking a lot, but I'll try to add in even more) but I kinda think it may have to do with my stress level.  I had a crappy day at work yesterday and then I found out my DH's job is trying to make him spend 2 weeks in Miami on a jobsite during my 36th and 37th week.  That's not something either of us feel comfortable with.  Thankfully I'm WFH today so I'm taking it easy.

  • BHs are just awful.  The crying thing is too.  I've had that a few times now and it is really bothering my poor dog.  He thinks there is an emergency when I cry and now he is looking at me like I'm a crazy woman for all of these false alarms.

  • Bleh, sorry you're experiencing them too. I know they're "good practice" for labor but they're annoying as h*ll.

  • DH was going through baby names and mentioned "Braxton" and I said "I never want to hear that name again"!  I've been feeling, and have been in and out of L&D for, what I guess are BHs since 18 weeks.  Which is way sooner than anyone else seems to feel them.  They are awful.

I had to laugh at this because my friend named her son Braxton and she used to say Braxton is giving me Braxton hicks Huh?

But yes braxton hicks are VERY annoying.

  • Yeah, I started having a few in the last couple of weeks!  Hopefully it stays just BH and nothing more serious!

  • Water, water, water!  I noticed that my BH contractions with DS #1 only hurt like that when I was in desperate need of H2O.  It's amazing what a huge glass of water and putting your feet up can do to stop them!
