  I O'd before my first AF, while I was still EBF when my son was 5.5 months old. So, I could have gotten pg before getting AF. My cycles returned and I was able to TTC without weaning. I continued BF until 19 weeks pg with DD; DS weaned himself because of the changes in my supply quantity and taste.

  Everyone is different. Some will get cycles back at 6weeks pp; others will have to wean completely for fertility to return. Sorry if I'm not much help.

  I agree with the PP it will vary from person to person.

  Maybe you could do something in the middle-maybe drop a few feedings so you're not EBF but LO is still getting BM? That might make AF return.

  It totally depends. Some people have to totally wean for AF to return, others get it even when you are still nursing full time and overnight (me). 

  You can conceive before AF arrives if you catch the first time you O. You might just have to wait and see what happens! GL!

  I didn't get AF until I weaned DD around 11 months - and then I got pregnant again that following month.

  I have a history of losses and didn't want to chance becoming pregnant with elevated prolactin and possibly low estrogen (both a product of producing milk).

  I weaned first and then caught the first egg post-weaning. 

  Our IF journey: 1 m/c, 1 IVF with only 3 eggs retrieved yielding Dylan and a lost twin, 1 shocker unmedicated BFP resulting in Jace, 3 more unmedicated pregnancies ending in more losses.
  Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.

  AF returned at 7 months PP when Jackson started solids.  I was pg the next month.  He nursed until 10 months when he weaned himself b/c of supply and taste change.

  I EPed and AF did not return so I cut down to 2 pumps ever 24hrs and still nothing.  Finally quit pumping and AF came right away.  Got pregnant in my first cycle and are now expecting this fall.  Kiddos will be 15 months apart.

  I did not stop BFing.  We wanted to space our kids 18-24 months apart.  I met with my OB to discuss ways to bring my fertility back when DS was 9 months old.  He had already night weaned and had been down to 4 feedings a day for over a month.  We decided that I could try to pump one session instead of BF and see if taking out a daytime session brought on ovulation.  I wanted to wait until 1 year to fully wean him, and was going to do that if fertility did not return by then. 

  However, it was all for nothing.  We had actually already conceived by the time of my appointment, but I hadn't tested positive yet.  I had even joked with my OB about hoping to be so lucky as to catch my 1st PP ovulation.

  So yes, you CAN conceive before AF arrives and while still BFing.  However, I believe that the chances are very low.  If anything, there is probably a skewed result on this board since everyone here has kids closer together.
