  • Lurker here, but I am going to throw out the Beco Gemini.  You can do outward facing front, inward facing front, hip and back carries with it.  I love my Ergo but do wish that I could face him out in it!

  • I don't have an opinion on any of these, but I love my Baby K'Tan.

It's super comfy and my LO loves it. It's great when she wants to be held because it is truly hands free.

I tried another carrier but felt like I still had to support LO's head because it didn't hold her snug to me.

The Baby K'Tan can position the baby towards you, facing out, hip style and on your back. It's very versatile and will hold up to 35lbs.

  • Out of those, I'd definitely suggest you get the Ergo.  Bjorns don't distribute the infant's weight properly, so you'd end up with back pain after a short period of baby-wearing.

I have a linen ring sling from Sleeping Baby Productions that's really lightweight and easy to put on.  It's also the easiest type of carrier to nurse in, if you're BFing.

  • Is there an ergo you can wear with baby facing out? DD loves to face out.  We currently have the bjorn active, but now, I might look into the beco.

  • I would definitely say not the Bjorn - as pp said, once baby gets to be even a little bigger, it gets painful.

I've heard great things about the Ergo and I'm considering getting one myself. I know you can nurse in it but it may be difficult at this stage. I have no practice with one firsthand, though.

I've been using a Hava ring sling. It's lightly padded and amazing!! DS loves it and he looks adorable with his little head sticking out of it, like he's sitting in a cup. I have also used it to BF in and it's very discreet - actually DH and I were at an event where a lot of his coworkers looked directly at the baby while BFing and had no idea that he was eating. They thought he was asleep.

I found this link to be helpful, too:

ETA: I forgot to say also how I can carry DS around for a really long time and not even notice his weight in the sling. I'm sure that'll change as he gets bigger, though, which I why I was thinking about a mei tai or an ergo.

I don't think there's an Ergo with front/forward-facing options. I've never seen one myself and they don't offer one on their Website.

We have the Catbird Baby Pikkolo---pretty much the same as the Beco Gemini but it's been around a tad longer than the Gemini. I've used the Pikkolo with both kids and you can carry them from newborn, all through infancy into toddler-hood so it's been a fantastic investment! There's a minimal learning curve {IMO, much much easier than a wrap because of the quick buckles} and I feel more support than I did with any of my sling carriers too.  Soft-structured carriers are my fave!

  • I too have the Pikkolo and love it.  I was going to go with an Ergo at first, but found out you can carry them from newborn to toddler hood with a pikkolo and you can do front and back with it.

  • I'm making dinner with DD in the Ergo Sport as I type  :)  I tried the Moby and another sling a friend gave me and they both kill my back, but the Ergo is comfy.

  • I love my Ergo sport and it is my go-to carrier for walks, hikes, doing things around the house, and long shopping trips.  I have nursed in it without a problem.

I also use my Maya ring sling when I'm just wanting to throw a carrier in my diaper bag for quick outings when I need to nurse easily on the go.  I love how easy it is to nurse in a ring sling, but I can tell C isn't as comfortable in the sling as he is in the Ergo.

I like my Mei Tai for doing things around the house and walks as well.  It's not my favorite at his size right now but I liked it a lot when he was a NB and I think I will like it again when he is a bit bigger.

Overall-I would go with the Ergo if I could only pick one.

  • I love my ergo, and my mei tai baby.

MT is lighter, and great for walking, or quick trips. It ties up around your waist, which gets a little uncomfortable for me on long wears. I also like it comes with a snap to pinch the bottom fabric together, so I can wear LO facing out while she's in the front.

Ergo's shoulder straps and more padded, and the bottom strap is lower, around your hips so it's more comfortable for longer wears. I love that it has a hood, fantastic for sunny days and also for breastfeeding. I have the original, and it is thicker than my MT, so it's sweatier for both LO and myself right now. I like that it has a hip wear option, but you can't turn LO around with the front wear, so she can face out.

    My overly happy baby girl!
