Did anyone here have a low supply breastfeeding with their first child, and then no problem w/ the 2nd?
I had a low supply w/ DD, the lactation consultant took one look at her and said she was sucking on her tongue, probably in the womb also, and so she wasn't relying on me as much to feed. thus, my supply was low and nothing ever helped it get back up, not tea, reglan medication, etc.I breastfed for 4 months, but supplemented w/ formula the whole time.
now i'm pregnant w/ #2 and just wondering who has been successful the second time around? I'd love to hear something encouraging...
Re: Successful bf'ing the 2nd time around?
I'm only on baby number 1 so I can't talk from personal experience. I know of people (close friends) who were successful the 2nd time after a disasterous first time.
You know the ropes from the 1st time so you are well on your way. I would just suggest setting yourself up for success. Find a LC who's goal is to see you succeed. Get anything you think you may need to help boost your supply (herbs, pumps etc.) so you don't have to worry about it after the baby is born. Read some good books on breastfeeding.
Good luck!
Me... With DS #1 we had latching issues and I was just very flustered that he was not getting enough milk. I ended up exclusively pumping for five months then switching to formula as I just didn't have time to pump enough after I went back to work and when I got home I wanted to actually play with DH rather than pump more.
With DS #2 breastfeeding has been smooth sailing from day 1. He latched immediately and since I was way more relaxed about being a mom in general it was totally not stressful. Good luck to you!
Me!!!!
It totally can be done BUT it took a ton of work this time and I had to be really committed to it. The first month I pretty much BF non-stop.
