Holy crap me too. Have you ever seen that NICU at Night song on You Tube? I can't watch it without bawling...
When our son was in the NICU, I posted updates as Notes on Facebook. I was just looking back on them tonight. Man, that NICU experience sucked...
I. love. that. commercial. It makes me cry every time but I love it. I think it might be because it is one of the very few time I see babies who look like mine did in the media.
The NICU at night song, I can't. I forgot how much that song killed me and put it on while rocking Liam to sleep, done, just a mess.
Yes the NICU at night song gets me too....and the story about "How God chooses Preemie moms" and various other things.
There is a picture on the wall at the hospital where A was for surgery and it shows the Neo (the one who I very strongly dislike) standing infront of a intubated baby, and I remember saying to DH when we were reading the facts, etc...that's not a preemie...that's got to be a full term baby, because the baby was huge! Now looking at it makes me think of A post op...possibly the hardest two weeks EVER.
I started watching "Grey's Anatomy" on Netflix from Season 1, Episode 1, when I buckled down on my quest to EBF. It's so hard to watch anything where a preemie appears! also, I'm so freaking happy I'd never seen that show before now because if I'd heard "bradycardia" used in the context they always use it in I'd think it = dead. EEK.
The Preemie Song makes me smile, though. We have some sweet memories, too
True story: the car wreck/sing-a-long/Callie-has-her-baby-at-23-weeks Grey's Anatomy episode aired the SAME WEEK I HAD MY BABIES. Like, I had the babies on a Friday, that was the episode the net Thursday. I was in SHAMBLES.
And to OP: that commercial gets me EVERY. TIME. Like PP said, it's so - I dunno, jarring? comforting? - to see a baby like mine in the media. It' so uncommon and that commercial does it in such a beautiful way.
I just looked up the NICU at Night song. I haven't listened since DD was in NICU, and when it started my chest tightened.
Going to watch my baby sleep in her crib now!
I love it because prematurity should be more visible. No one should be ashamed of these perfect babies.
My husband and I often say we miss the NICU. Yep. We're crazy. But, it was our lives for 3+ months.
Similar experience - we posted to a CarePages site and I've been copying the updates from us and the messages from family and friends into a scrapbook recently and it does me in.
I'm crying much more now than I ever did when he was in the NICU. It just hits me now. The other night he was asleep on my chest and I was remembering the first time I held him - he was no more than 2 lbs and he fit into my shirt. DH looked over and saw me crying for seemingly no reason.
