BF moms - how long...

Does your LO nurse for at a time?  DS was nursing for about 20-30 minutes but last week he started only nursing for 5-10 minutes at a time.  He is gaining weight and seems to be just as happy as he was before.  Anyone else experience this?

    My LO was the same way.  Now I'm lucky if I get 15 minutes in total between both sides.  She eats so quickly that she often coughs and I have to pull her off.  The pediatrician said as long as she's having enough wet diapers and doesn't seem lethargic we are fine.

    At some point my daughter's feeding times went way down too. I think I was starting to have a lot more milk, and she was able to get it out faster. She seems full, and her little cheeks are chubbier by the day. :)

    Jess & Adam, married 2009, precious Audrey born in 2011. BFP 1/6/13, 6-wk MMC discovered at 9 wks 2/11/13. D&C 2/18/13, second D&C 4/23/13 for retained placenta.
    BFP 8/24/13!! EDD 5/1/14, delivered healthy and sweet Zoey Leanne on 5/5/14 by repeat c-section.

    our LO is 5.5weeks and just changed his eating times from 30min down to 15-18mins this week. I let him eat til he is done and sometimes he will comfort suck himself to sleep.

    My LO is the same age as yours and only eats for 10 - 15 mins (every 2.5 - 3 hrs), sometimes he will snack and eat for 5 mins (every 1 - 2 hrs). Once in a while he will eat longer and yes, he comfort sucks and falls asleep. He is packing on the weight (birth was 6lbs 12oz, 1 month he was at 10lbs 5oz) and has plenty of wet and dirty diapers. I talked to my lactation consultant and she said it's perfectly normal and as long as he is gaining weight and having wet and dirty diapers he is fine. Yay for short feedings! :)

    My DS did the same thing. About 1/2 weeks ago he started only eating on one side for most feedings as well as shortened his eating times from 20 minutes down to anywhere between 8-12 minutes (when he unlatches & refuses anymore). He's been having plenty of wet/dirty diapers, so I haven't really thought much of it (since the LC told us he would become more efficient as he got older).

    enjoy it! you've got an efficient eater.

    DD#1 took forever to nurse - it was always a process.

    DD#2 takes 10-12 minutes total (usually 5-6 minutes on each side). If she takes one she'll stay there for 8 or 9 minutes but she rarely nurses longer than 12 minutes total.

    usually less than 10 minutes with plenty of dirty dipes and good gain.

    roughly around 20 minutes give or take 10-15.  she grazes a lot during the day but we have nothing better to do so i let it go.  i try to start cutting her off at the 20 minute mark in the middle of the night though.
