I am being tested for this on Thursday. Just wondering if anyone has this and what symptoms you had prior to finding out. I have bloating and nausea after eating. I don't get it after everything I eat, but it happens fairly often.
For those of you that do have Celiac Disease, how has it changed your IF journey...if at all. I have heard that going gluten free can help an annovulatory cycle.
Re: Celiac Disease?
I don't have an official diagnosis of celiac. All the bloodwork came back negative but I didn't want to have biopsies done while doing an IVF cycle. Apparently the bloodwork can give you false negatives. But I feel much better when I don't eat gluten. I don't have abdominal cramping, bloating and diarrhea when I eat gluten-free. And I decided to go gluten-free when I had this last embryo transfer because I was told that untreated celiac can cause infertility and miscarriages. Not sure what made the difference with this pg being a sticky one, as there are many variables, but I didn't want to risk eating gluten and feeling so lousy with gluten in my system.
Good luck!
I have diagnosed CD. Unfortunately everyone's symptoms are different. For me when they really took off I had chronic bloating, gas and diarreha (sp?) I pretty much felt fine otherwise, not like I had a bug or ate something bad. My mom also has CD got to the point that she was throwing everything up too. Mine was just diagnosed quicker/easier because my symptoms were just like my moms.
Just a heads up, I wouldn't just do the blood test unless you're doing genetic testing. A lot of labs still don't know how to properly test for CD. The only sure way to get a definitive diagnosis is with genetic blood testing and or a small intestine biopsy via an endoscopy.
As for CD and IF. Unfortunately for me I have annovulatory PCOS and was gluten free for over 4 years before we started TTC and it didn't change my cycle but I have heard many stories of people that it did.
GL and feel free to PM if you have any questions! It can be over whelming but as good as I feel now being GF its well worth it.
Ditto what PPs said re: biopsy - you definitely need one for a definiteive diagnosis. And even if it comes back negative, it doesn't mean that you don't have a gluten intolerance, just that you don't have CD.
I haven't had the biopsy done since it took a back burner to the fertility treatments, but I did go gluten free. I was also tested for other allergies and am now also dairy, egg, and mostly corn free. Totally sucks, but it's made me feel a lot better!
