We're getting closer and closer to starting solids with my daughter. Does anyone have any experience or opinions about the baby food makers on the market (Beaba Babycook, Baby Bullet, etc.)?
Part of me really wants to buy one for the convenience. But the other part of me knows that I probably have sufficient larger appliances (food processor, blender) that could accomplish the same goal of creating wholesome handmade baby food.
Re: Baby Food Makers? Yay or Nay?
My mom wondered if I'd like a baby bullet so I think we'll be getting one. It isn't something I had on my "must have" list but I appreciate her thought and excitement about her grandbaby having home made food.
Nay. I used our blender for purees. She only ate purees for 3 months so would have been a waste to buy a special appliance.
I do recommend silicone trays for storage (just until frozen, then pop out and put in ziploc baggies)

Nay.
A food processor or blender do the same job. No need for an overpriced piece of equipment that will only get used for a few months when you've likely got everything you need in your kitchen already. Steam (in microwave or in steamer basket), puree in fp or blender, freeze in ice cube trays. Easy.
I agree. I used my food processor for both kiddos (baby food was the excuse I gave my husband so that I could get a nice, new food processor!)
My kids only ate purees for a VERY short while. Once they could put pieces of food in their mouth, they lost interest in purees completely.
I would opt for a nice food processor that you can use for many years.

This, and often I felt like even my FP wasn't big enough to get as much as I wanted. One of the baby food steam/puree machines wouldn't make enough to fill an ice cube tray, IMO. DD didn't do purees nearly as long as DS, so I just started steaming things and putting them in the fridge whole so I could pull out a little and mash it only as much as she needed. A baby food maker would have only had a month worth of use for her.
