WDYT of the name Emmett? I have liked this name for a while now, even more after I read the Twilight series. MH thinks of Emmitt Smith and thinks everyone will think we named our kid after him. Just wondering if everyone automatically thinks of Emmitt Smith if you heard Emmett on a little boy?

I've met a few Emmetts. It seems like a country name to me, but I don't dislike or like it. It's far better than some of the other crazy names that are out there right now! I haven't read Twilight so I wouldn't notice that reference (outside of Bella/Edward, of course).

I love Emmett, too. A lot of the regulars on this board seem to hate Twilight, though. I'd personally be more likely to associate it with Twilight or Legally Blonde than with Emmitt Smith. I guess it just depends on who you meet; if they are more into sports than chick flicks or teen fiction then they might have that association.

I love the name! I do associate in with Emmitt Smith but we are huge Cowboy fans and he was my favorite player. We considered the name but I had already used it for my childhood dog so it was vetoed.

Love the name. I do not associate Emmett with the Cowboys Emmitt Smith since it's spelled different.

BILs name is Emmett Patrick.

I like it too! Especially after reading the Twilight series. It put the name in a new light for me outside Emmett Smith. I think it's very sweet but I don't know any little boys with that name.

I don't know anything about Twilight, but DH loves Emmett because of Back to the Future (Dr. Emmett Brown played by Christopher Lloyd).

I like it more and more lately, it's growing on me. I definitely think of Emmitt Smith but that's a good thing IMO. Although the Twilight association might make me like it less, not a fan of any of that. Many people think it sounds country but when I hear it I think African-American name b/c I had 2 college friends named Emmett and Emmitt and then Emmitt Smith. that's not a negative thing obviously, they just were far from "country". I like it and who cares if somebody assumes it's b/c of Emmitt Smith? There's a lot worse people you could name your kid after! lol

I have a two-year-old Emmett and he is amazing! We are not from the country and didn't know the name was in Twilight until someone here mentioned it a few weeks ago. We were on the fence but I am so happy we chose Emmett. He is strong, smart, handsome, and I think it fits him perfectly

I didn't even know that adults existed that like Twilight. I'm seriously perplexed by that.

Anyway...I like Emmett all right. I think it ages well and is classic. Nothing bad to say about Emmett.
