  • I'm going to I think. I suck at taking pictures. Will you take them for me?

  • We had KDLoftis come for E's 2nd birthday party, which was at our house. It was a combination portrait sitting and then she stayed and took pics at the party.  It was really nice to not have to worry about taking pictures and they ones Kelley took were beautiful.  We can't afford to do it every time but it sure was fun to do once!

  • I think this is the first time I have ever voted for a special snowflake answer.

I don't think I would necessarily do it, but I can certainly see why someone else would. Our parties have all been pretty low-key, relaxed affairs to this point, so it would seem odd to have a photographer there...I would be spending more money on a photographer than I would for the rest of the party!

If it was a big party with lots of decor and interesting things going on, I can see hiring a photographer.

  • I think it's a good idea, but not something for every party every year, KWIM?

Also, based on my own personal experience- do not have a pro photog but have it at a public park, make ppl bring their own chairs/ride on toys and then only serve 1 bowl of goldfish and cake even though the paryt is at lunch time. Then ppl will think it sucks.

  • I think it's a neat idea, especially for those big milestone birthdays.  I would love to do it if our budget allowed for it.

Me too!! Like PP we wont do this for every birthday party, but what I loved about it was that I or my H was not behind the camera worrying about pictures. I was free to enjoy the time with family and friends and our little one. J. Stratton did ours.  We also grouped it with 1year pictures and paid for her to stay and do the birthday party.

No way!  How does one strong-arm guests into bringing chairs and toys then not feed them?  Wow!

HA.  You have been to enough functions at my house to know there isn't a lack of food no matter what time we are having a party.

I am skipping the photog this year due to the location, but I can assure you, there will be plenty of food...now I just have to decide what kind of food...pizza/good pool snacky foods or the flipping tea party food.

We left that party with many, many questions...

  • I think it is a great idea.  But I would never spend the money on it.
  • I think it's a great occasion to find a starting photographer and get a good deal on a package from them

Ditto. If I won the lotto I'd do it, but I don't think any of DS's parties will be that elaborate and I can't justify the expense.

  • We did for DD's 1st birthday. We have great pictures of all of us with her, as well as the highlights. Loved not having to watch those moments through a viewfinder and just being able to enjoy them. Definitely not something we'll do every year but it's fun here and there.

I also love the pictures we have of friend's kids and our families. We chose someone who would just give us the CD of images so we could print on our own.

Julie did Avery's second and third parties.  We aren't having a photographer this year.  I feel like a chump for not doing J's first birthday.

  • I'm a photo junkie. I'm also the one getting stuck taking pictures at everything. well, not stuck, that's what I do. I also love playing hostess at parties and since both activities take up the whole time, I can't be the hostess with the mostest if I'm always trying to get that perfect picture. Plus, I suck at indoor shots where i need flash. I can't get the camera focused fast enough or I try taking the picture quickly and it ends up blue or the shot is simply missed. I'd rather let someone worry about it.

Yes, I also basically used his DS party as his 1 year photo shoot.

  • I'd do it every single year if fit in the budget.

I have 6 pictures from L's first birthday party. And 4 of those are blurry pics of food. That's what I get for delegating camera duties...

  • I think it's a "brilliant" idea. My friend is having one at her daughter's birthday party in a few weeks. She felt that she didn't want to be the one running around trying take pics and not enjoying the party for herself with friends and family.

I definitely plan on doing this for my future babies/kids.
