First real Oh Sh*t moment

Ok, things have happend before as a mom where I couldn't believe I did something, but this tops the experiences so far.

Sophia locked me out of the house yesterday. We were going to go to the pool so I stepped outside to spray myself with sunscreen. All of a sudden I hear, *click*. Oh crap. Heart sinking. DH was in Vegas. No neighbors have keys. My phone and keys are inside the house. Hoping she didn't lock and run, I start calling to her, "Sophia, unlock the door. Unlock the door please." All the time thinking she isn't really going to unlock the door. Luckily, she did actually unlock it and I rushed in the door before she had a chance to re-lock it. I guess we'll need to be prepared for that to happen again. Just thinking about it makes me tense!

  • ugh - my heart raced a little for you.

Ella locked herself in the bathroom a few weeks ago - luckily my history as a sneaky little sister came in handy, but for a few secs I was freaking out.

  • I already had a plan in place if Sophia locked herself in her bedroom. Unfortunately, a bobbypin doesn't work on a deadbolt!

  • OMG. Scary. thank god she unlocked it.

My neighbors kid did this to her when he was like 18 months old and he just sat there smiling out the window at her like it was a big joke. Luckily, she finally got him to unlock it too...she was freaking out.

  • oh - I'll make you feel better - we used to let E hold our car keys and sit in the car for a few mintues in the garage/driveway when we came home from school.  We'd stand nearby and let her sit in the car alone for a minute or two and then go in the house.  Some days she came willingly, other days it was a battle - so I'd just pretend to go in the house - until the day I realized she knew how to put the key IN the ignition.  Not that she knew how to turn it or put the car in gear, but OMG.  Yeah. ... we still let her hold the keys sometimes, but never when we're IN the car.

  • I almost had that kind of moment, but there would have been no way talking my 15 mo old into unlocking it.  I try to be sure the door is unlocked in that kind of situation, but it's easy to not think about it!

Glad she unlocked it and all was safe!

  • Oh boy! I really need to show Annabelle how to unlock the door, after your experience. I don't think she knows how too and I know if I was locked out of the house, she would not know how to open the door or unlock it.

  • OMG- that is scary!  I used to be able to "break-in" to my house through a dog door in our garage, and a hidden key but I don't think I would fit anymore.  I need a new plan.
