Babies: 6 - 9 Months

If you give your LO yogurt.

When you first tried it out, how much did you feed them?  We have not run into any allergies yet but did have colic and still has gas issues now and then.  I don't want to risk hurting her tummy.  Did you go ahead and feed the whole thing (we got the yo baby) or did you just try a few spoonfuls?

Re: If you give your LO yogurt.

  • We do BLW, so LO eats as many spoonfuls as he wants. We dip the spoon in the yogurt and hand it to him and he feeds himself. When he's done with it, he drops the spoon or otherwise shows us he isn't interested. Alternatively, he can get it on his fingers and lick it off. We just give him normal full-fat plain yogurt--the same kind I eat. The probiotics in it are great for babies. Added bonus: when LO eats it is, his cradle cap clears up within a day or two.

  • We just did a few spoonfuls the first time, maybe 5? LO won't let me spoon feed him (mr. "I can do it!" already) and we do BLW most of the time, so I just "load" a spoon and hand it to him.

Greek yogurt is his favorite food, hands down- especially with blueberries.

Yogurt's really easy to digest, I hope her tummy handles it well! I've also noticed LO has gotten more regular (every morning as opposed to randomly every few days) since he's been eating it. Win win!

  • We don't have any allergies, so I jumped right in with yogurt.  I just bought a big tub of full fat (6%) Balkan plain yogurt.  He probably ate about half a cup of it.  I wouldn't be too worried about giving too much of it, after all, typically people don't introduce small amount of any other foods.. But then I am a little more easy going with foods than most moms I know.  We also do BLW, so a fun way to use yogurt is as a dip for other things.

  • We started it around 6 months when she had a double ear infection that wasn't responding to Amox and had to go on Augmentin.  Dr. recommended buying regular full fat yogurt as opposed to the baby yogurt, so we went with that.  At her first feeding she had about 4 oz. and was fine.  It actually helped her tummy big time against the antibiotic.
  • We did it maybe 2 weeks ago. They didn't seem to taken with it. I used Gerber yogurt and did slightly less than half a container each. Neither had any issues with it.

  • He eats until he's full. But generally that is half the YoBaby container and I often mix something in with it, like prunes or carrots.
  • I really wanted to get the big tub, but the only full fat large tub, that was organic had 29g of sugar!! It was more than 2x what the Yo baby had.  I am excited to try it, she has some days she is very regular and then others she has pretty hard poops.  She loves to eat though and is working on some finger foods.

ETA: I had fat, where sugar should of been.

  • I hadn't thought about giving DS yogurt, but I think we'll try it this week.  Pretty excited for him to try yet something else new.  But um yikes, 29g of fat??  That's some extreme yogurt.

HA!  I just laughed out loud for real.  Even still, that's some sugary yogurt.

  • I started with about an ounce but he freaking loves yogurt and will eat up to 4 oz (the whole container) at a time. He usually cries when it's gone. If it was the only thing I was feeding him, he'd easily eat the whole container but I serve it along with a puree and cereal, so it's usually about 2 oz.

His favorite yogurt recipe is "baby pumpkin pie". I start with a multi-grain cereal base (about 2 tbsp), add about 1 - 2 oz of pumpkin puree (I use canned pumpkin) and top with vanilla yogurt and cinnamon. He loves it!

I'm pretty sure I would eat that.

You can give your baby cows milk. Doctors just say, "No cows milk until 1" because they are afraid that silly mommies will stop BFing or FFing and just switch completely to cows milk, which does not have enough nutrition for a growing baby
