s/o Anxiety & Pregnancy

I mean actual diagnosed and treated (maybe untreated) anxiety.  Maybe we can offer each other support or just a place to vent here.

I was on Lexapro before DD#1.  I stopped during pregnancy.  Then started up again after she was born.  Now I've stopped again.

But I'm having a hard time.

  • I'm sorry you're having a tough time. :(

Lexapro has been a lifesaver for me (and for my relationship! lol). As I mentioned in the other thread, I've decided to stay on it during this pregnancy. When I'm not on it, I obsess and obsess over troublesome things. Even if there is nothing to worry about, I will find something to worry about, and then I can't focus on anything else. All of that obsessing over disturbing thoughts leads to depression. So.. given that there is plenty to worry about during pregnancy, I think it's in everyone's best interest for me to stay on it.

eta: I'm jealous of people who don't need medication in the first place and don't have to choose between taking something that might hurt their baby and rampant anxiety/depression like we do. I just have to forgive myself for taking it.

  • Vent all you want! I am so sorry you have to go through that :(

  • I don't know if going off of it is the right decision for me.  But I did OK last time (I didn't know continuing was an option).  I can probably do OK this time.

I know what you mean about it saving your relationship.  It was a marriage saver for me too!

  • I took Lexapro for many years awhile back. Getting off of it and going through the taper/wean process was very difficult. But it was a miracle worker for my anxiety! Sorry you're having a hard time.

My anxiety has amped up since I got my BFP. I've only had to take Xanax here and there the past few years, but it's a class D drug, so it's obviously not an option now. I did just start seeing a psychologist in the hopes I can make it through pg drug-free, but if my anxiety attacks and insomnia continue as they have been, I would imagine I'll have to get back on an anti-depressant like Lexapro at some point.

  • Hugs and vent all you want. I've been feeling very stressed, anxious here too. Even before BFP. I think the main reason is that we are building our place and I just want to be in it already...I'm not on meds but sometimes feel I should be?!

Oh yeah, on top of all this, we're trying to sell our house to buy a new one!  Ahhh!

I think meds would benefit a lot of people.  I lived with the anxiety for so long and when I went on Lexapro, I coudln't believe I waited as long as I did.

Same here! I always say I should have gone on it about 8 years before I did.

  • I'm so sorry--I'm completely in your boat.  I weaned off of Zoloft before TTC and I'm anxious all the time.  I'd forgotten how it interfered with my sleep until these last 2 months, where I wake up in the middle of the night worrying about random (often completely inconsequential) things.  I'm just trying to stay active and find ways to calm myself.

We'll have to help each other stay calm!
