How to use breast milk to clear up tear duct?

I've heard that breast milk could clear a blocked tear duct but I'm not sure how. I assume that you put some drops in the LO's eye? Any advice is appreciated, thanks ladies!

  • I don't think it will actually clear up the clog but it will prevent Baby's eye from getting infected while it is clogged. Our pedi told us to (first wipe any gunk away) just express a drop on a clean finger and gently massage it into the corner of the eye where the tear duct is. You don't need very much. Good luck!

  • After I pumped I would use a syringe to drop about two drops into DS's eye and the massaged it in.

  • thanks for the tips ladies!
  • if you haven't asked your pedi about the tear ducts I would do that. I mentioned that our little guy had nasty eyes at our last appt and assumed that was the problem. the doc checked it out and his tear ducts were working fine, so we were prescribed drops to treat an eye infection and they are much better now. just a thought.

I agree with this. Also, saline drops in the nose actually helped us clear up Hannah's.
