Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Moms of crib sleepers

Clearly, I'm bored tonight. Actually supposed to be studying for an accounting final, but I keep thinking of other things.

When did you stop checking on your baby in the middle of the night? Or do you still? We moved A to his crib last week and I still get up a couple times at night when I don't hear anything on the monitor to make sure he's okay. He always is. Does this feeling go away with time? I'd really like to sleep 7 or 8 hours in a row.

Thanks!

  • Ummm I'd like to see the other responses too.  We moved DS to his crib about a month ago and I check on him every 2-3 hours when I'm not working nights.  I think I'll stop checking on him when he's about 16.

  • She sleeps in our room in the crib because I do get a little paranoid about what could happen if I'm not three feet away. I'm only this paranoid because she once spit up in her sleep and started choking on it. Now she sleeps on her side always, also. When we do move her own room, probably around 7.5 or 8 months I will probably wake up to every noise she makes from rolling over just like I do now.

  • I think after the first couple nights he was in there (we moved him at 4 months). I enjoy my sleep too much, haha.

He goes to bed at 6:30pm (STTN until 6am, love it!), so I'm usually up for at least 3-4 more hours and I peek in on him a few times before I go to bed. More because he's so darn cute when he sleeps rather than "needing" to check on him.

  • I check on her everytime I walk by her room. I peek in at her and kiss her one last time befoe I get in bed and then any time I get up to use the bathroom I check on her.

  • DS has been in his crib in his room since he was 1 week old.  I check on him once before I go to bed & that's it.  Heck no am I getting up in the middle of the night to check.  That's the beauty of STTN.

  • Lillian has been in her room since about three months. I don't get up in the middle of the night to check. In fact, even if I walk to the bathroom, I don't. I am too scared to wake her. I will check in on her once right before I go to bed to make sure she doesn't have anything draped over her face (like her lovey or receiving blanket) or that she isn't sleeping face-planted, which I have seen her do.
  • I check on DS once before I go to bed, and then my H checks on him before he goes to bed.  That's it until the AM!

  • Unless she starts crying or making some other weird noise, she's on her own from 8-8.  We learned the hard way that checking on here is a sure fire way to wake her up.

This. She's been in her crib since she 4 weeks, and I don't think I'll stop checking on her until she graduates high school.

  • Ds has been in his room for a couple months.  He is 6 1/2 months adjusted age.  We have a video monitor so we just peep at him when we hear him (or if you just want to check on him) if he doesn't settle down or we see he needs us we go to his room and tend to him.

    Same in our household.

  • I check on him before I go to bed. The first few nights after we moved him into his own room he started sleeping longer stretches so when I woke at 3 and he hadn't been up yet, I went in there...which would wake him up. So I learned quickly to leave well enough alone. He still wakes once at least, so I'm sure if I woke up at 6 a.m. and he hadn't been up I'd probably run into his room in a panic. ;)

  • Mollusk doesn't consistently sttn, so I don't feel the need to check on her. I always do before I go to bed, I make sure she's warm enough and not smushed up in the corner of her crib (she always is).  75% of the time she wakes in the middle of the night, I wait for her to put herself back to sleep and then I check on her. Other times she needs help.  25% of the time she sttn.

  • Jackson has been in his crib since he was 6 weeks old. I check on him before I go to bed and that's it until I wake him up to eat before I go to work.
  • At this point, I check on him right before we go to sleep. If he doesn't cry or wake up overnight, I don't get up.

We put him in his crib at 2 months. I've never made it a habit to randomly check on him if he's quiet. I mean, I have certainly done it at times, but not all the time or every night. His bedroom is right next to ours.  He started STTN at 3.5 months....I haven't really done it since 4 months or so, maybe. It's been awhile.

  • DS has been in his crib since we brought him home from the hospital. He was in our room for the first 6 weeks, then we moved him to his own room. I only check on him if he's making a lot of noise. I think it's different when it's your 2nd tho -- DD I checked on ALL.THE.TIME.

  • We have a video monitor, but unless he's making noise, I don't even look at it if I wake in the middle of the night. No way would I check on him. We have a creaky hallway and I'm even afraid to walk to the bathroom in the middle of the night because I don't want to wake him up! I am not going to open his door and chance that!

  • I check on her when I go to bed, and when I get up in the morning.  In the night I will only go in to check if I hear her making funny noises.  She's been sleeping through the night since we put her in her own room at 2 weeks old.  I think the first night we did the panic check because we hadn't heard a peep out of her and figured something must be wrong, but no, she was fine and sleeping soundly!

  • We have a video monitor so I peek at her on that quite a bit. I always go check her before I go to bed. Then, whenever I naturally wake during the night, I click the monitor. If I can't see movement, I go and put my hand on her chest to check her breathing.

    Exactly this.
