crib bumpers

So we have read all the studies that there should be nothing in the crib until one year old.  But this AM, Miles woke up screaming and when I went flying into his room, I saw that he had his leg stuck between the rungs of his crib.  I had to work his little leg out of the rungs.  He is rolling around a lot in his crib when he wakes up in the AM and has mastered rolling both ways.  Should I put the bumpers in?

Re: crib bumpers

  • I think a lot of people use breathable bumpers for this reason.  I just use regular bumpers.  My LO rolls everywhere, but he has great head control and moves his head from side to side to get comfortable.

  • I put the regular bumpers in about a month ago.  Jamie also has great head control and our bumpers are very thin anyways.  We also have a fan in the room.  Jamie did the same thing 2 days in a row with an arm and then a leg stuck in the rungs.

  • We just put in breathable bumpers for this very reason.

  • My bumper came in 4 peices, one for each side. So I just put up the one on the long side that faces out. Has been working good for us.

& Ditto what everyone else has said.

  • I think someone suggested on FB to put the bumper on the outside of the crib. I think this is a great alternative to the breathable bumper if you already have a regular bumper at home.

  • I have both regular and breathable bumpers. I'm seriously debating using one of them for this very reason. Usually Emilie is okay with putting her feet through the slats, but every once in awhile she freaks and starts to cry.

  • DS did the same thing and I was super worried about using a bumper.  We got him a regular bumper and he does great with it because he's such a wiggle wallaby.
