Hi, my dd is 5 years old and is severely lactose intolerant. She had the hydrogen breath test to dx this. She is now on a pretty strict dairy free diet. For awhile she was doing well tolerating certain things, but it's getting worse. We are continuing to have a lot of issues with diarrhea- several times per week she has diarrhea and gets a rash on her bottom. This past week we were in Disney World (where they were fabulous about making her special foods I have to say) and the poor kid had diarrhea every day - most days twice, about 20 minutes into a meal. It is sometimes mucusy or frothy. (Sorry TMI) I have kept a food log and cannot seem to find anything obvious.
She had blood work for celiac and it was negative. GI dr mentioned next step would be an endoscopy.
Any other common intolerances you can think of? Does allergy testing show intolerances? My sister read about fructose malabsorption and thinks we should test for that. The GI dr referred us back to pedi for any allergy stuff. So tomorrow I am calling pedi and GI again- any specific tests I should ask for? I feel so bad for her that she spends so much time on the toilet!!
Thank you,
Kirsten
Re: Help with food intolerance
like pp said, have her tested for soy.
has she been to an actual allergist yet? GI is great, but maybe she needs to be tested for allergies.. I would request a RAST test for the top 8 at least.
Hope she gets better and you figure out soon what is causing the issues.
