A/S Question

We had our anatomy scan last week and found out we are having a baby girl...we are sooo excited! However, the doctor couldn't get all the measurements she needed...as the baby was not cooperating. She was unable to get the right section of the head to measure. Thus, she is sending me to the hospital next week to have another a/s. She said all measurements looked fine but I am now a little paranoid. Just curious if this has this happened to anyone else and if this is normal procedure.

Thanks!!

Re: A/S Question

  • I think it's quite a normal thing to do if the baby was a little too active during the A/S. A lot of people have mentioned that they had to do a follow-up ultrasound because the tech couldn't get accurate measurements. I wouldn't worry about it.

  • We also had two a/s - the first time the baby was moving all over (and then decided to park his head behind my belly button) so they needed the second one for better pictures of the face and heart. Nothing was wrong, and we enjoyed getting to see the baby again. :)
  • Ditto! They made me wait 4 weeks for another scan. Our LO was moving all over the place. The technician saw that everything was good she just couldn't get all the shots before she moved again. I go next week for the second scan. First one was right at 20wks. I wonder if it's a girl thing...haha!

  • Our little boy wasn't moving enough!  He was in a bad position and refused to budge...so they couldn't get good shots of the heart.  I had to jog the building, pee, drink.....still as in same position!  The tech had the Dr. come in and the minute he came in, the baby moved just enough to show his heart!  Had he not moved we would have had to come back as well.

  • My first A/S everything looked great, but he wouldn't roll over to get the measurements for the heart so they scheduled a f/u a/s in 2 weeks. When I went to that, he still wouldnt cooperate to get the measurements. the ultrasound tech did say she could see that everything looked great, but she just couldnt get the measurements. so they're thinking of just going without those i guess?

i think it's common for this to happen with some of the measurements. they didnt seem worried in the least bit.

  • it's really common.  I had to go back 2 weeks after the first a/s so that they could get a better look at the heart.  They got what they needed the second time and I was told that everything looks great and normal
