The sweet ladies at my church threw my shower for me yesterday afternoon, and it was so nice. They're good friends, and it was a fun time for the most part. My poor DH was half asleep though (he works nights and it was like his 2am), but he was a trooper. Dad came too ...he's excited that he's going to be a first time grandpa. And my mom was there too diligently recording everything.
One of the guests had to leave, and I was so busy opening gifts and ooo'ing and ahh'ing over things that sadly I didn't notice. However, it turns out that it was a good thing I didn't ask about it at the time. One of our other friends that was sitting next to her followed her out. She'd gotten a phone call that her elderly aunt was killed suddenly in a car accident! Our other friend told us all about it after the shower ended. Most everyone there knew and loved her aunt.
Her aunt was also a dear friend of our family...so much so that she was like a surrogate mother to my dad after his own mother passed away and she had also lost her son. It was a special relationship. She even looked like his mother. I knew instantly that dad was feeling like he'd lost his own mother all over again. One of the hardest things was that she was so excited about the shower... she made sure she knew when the shower was over and over and was actually on the way TO the shower when she died.
The intersection is a really dangerous one right next to my OBs office. It's worried mom & me when we have to cross there everytime. The cross-traffic is going at least 60-70 mph there and there's no light to cross it. Dad's torn up today, and I'd certainly appreciate your T&Ps for dad especially, but also for her family!
