Early intervention program (speech therapy)

Hi gals!!!

So our move to NY is approaching quickly and we're so excited!  My 2yr old, Owen, is enrolled in IN's early intervention program for speech therapy and unfortunately there is no state to state transfer program for early intervention.  This means Owen will have to be re-evaluated in NY and go through the in-take process all over again.  Anyone have experience with NY's early intervention program & how long it takes for therapy to get started after evaluation?

Re: Early intervention program (speech therapy)

  • I'm in Niagara county and here there is a timeline for everything. So from my initial call, they had a week to set up a meeting, two weeks to set up an eval, three weeks to have another meeting to discuss what he qualified for and then if he did, his first speech appointment needed to be 45 days from the initial call - not before and not after by that long. Every county is different, though. I would make the initial call now, though and get things rolling ASAP. GL

  • I am in Onondaga County and for us, it was less than 3 weeks after the first call that we had our first therapy sessions.  My son recieved three different types of services and speach was the first one set up.
  • erie co here, took awhile they are very slow, but i've had no other complaints. M loves his ST!

let me know if you need any other info!
