Pregnant after IF

If you had an IVF, please read, need advice for a friend

Hi ladies! I originally wrote this on IF, but I thought some of you may have good ideas as well.

TIA!

Hi ladies.

I wrote on this board a few months back about a friend that has been struggling with IF and asked your advice on how I could best support her. I took your advice and it was really spot on.

Well, with further testing, they found that both of her tubes are blocked. I admit that I don't fully understand the medical terminology, but as she explained it to me, her RE said that the only course of action was IVF.

She went on stimulators and had eggs retrieved and fertlized. Her doctor said it looked good and that the quality was very high. Her appt is tomorrow to transfer the embryos.

I want to know what I can do to help her. Physically, I can't really do much as I am only a few weeks away from my due date. But, I thought maybe I would get them a meal service, so she could stay off her feet or maybe a cleaning service.

I already put together a care package of trashy gossip magazines, DVDs, I brought her a new sketch pad and oil pastels (she is a really good artist). I am going to give it to her when I  spend the day with her Tuesday.

For the ladies that have been through an IVF procedure...is there anything else I can do to help her? Is the idea of a cleaning service or meal service a good idea?

Thanks for your help ladies.

  • Hi there! First of all, kudos to you! You sound like a fantastic friend. The care package in itself is terrific, and I think you'd really be going above and beyond with meals/cleaning. Very sweet of you. Im sure you already know this but the biggest thing you can do us just listen and be there for her. There may be times in the next couple of days when she may need space, too, and it doesn't mean she's angry with you. When I was going through IVF I had a hard time being around pregnant people, no matter how much I loved them. Now I'm the pregnant one and I have a friend who is dealing with infertility and it's steanfe being on the other side. She's being very distant and I'm doing my best to remember that she's not angry with me, she's just going through a lot of tough emotions. best of luck to your friend, and to you, too! It sounds like you have a strong bond :)

  • What a great friend you are! So thoughtful of you.

Everything in the care package will really help her to rest up and take her mind off things.
