It's just the week that keeps on giving. So after the terrible, awful first week of pre-school, DD woke up this morning with a fever that went from mild to 103+ over the course of the day. To add to the fun, and being an equal opportunity daughter, she threw up on DH this afternoon and then on me as we were preparing to get in the bath.
So, this morning when we first noted the fever, I gave DD tylenol. After the dose wore off, I gave her a second dose, which she promptly spit out on the floor. After that, she refused to take it all together. I tried putting it in both a smoothie and apple sauce - but she wasn't really in a mood to eat. How do you get your toddler to take medicine when they refuse? I could've pinned her down, but I felt like being sick and throwing up was traumatic enough already. I tried bribery (popsicles and ice cream), neither worked. She did the same refusal with pedialyte, water and juice. I know from just one day, she won't be too dehydrated but when you know it will help her and she wants no part of it, I just don't know what to do.
Just so you don't think I am a terrible person, we did give her a cool bath and I put wet washcloth compresses on her forehead to help keep her temperature down a bit. I just failed with the meds and beverages.

Re: WWYD Part Two
we try airplane spoons, bribery with M&Ms but if they don't work, we force it down
also try pedialyte popsickles
I hope she feels better!!
Ditto all this - bribery then just shove that dropper in her mouth. She'll forgive you later when that fever comes down.
For Tylenol or ibuprofen, I personally probably wouldn't force it. My thinking would be that those medications are about comfort, not healing, and I would just let it go for a few hours and try again. I'd usually have DH take the next turn trying. He's usually more successful than I am with that kind of thing.
Assuming she's no longer throwing up, I'd keep offering clear liquids, Pedialyte, water, etc. and Pedialyte popsicles. Just getting her to take an ounce or two at a time would be a good start. If that stays down, then I'd encourage more. I wouldn't give her anything other than clear liquids for the first twenty-four hours or so. If she won't drink anything, even once the vomiting subsides or nothing is staying down this morning, I'd call the pediatrician for advice.
