I finally got a few ideas, thanks to pintrest for a messy painting. I didn't however save HOW to put one together. does anyone have a link or directions on how to do this?

Either using some sort of cutting machine (like the cricut or silhouette) or by sticker letters, assemble your letters for your phrase. If you are cutting, use the sticky back vinyl.
Take your canvas and lay down the letters (or an image - I did a tree with hearts for the leaves). Rub all the edges down.
If you want your letters to have crisp edges without any bleeding, then paint over the whole canvas (right over the words/images) with white acrylic paint. Let dry over night.
Next lay the canvas on the floor and let your little one have at it. Some pointers, if you are going to use like colors, you can just add the next color. If you are doing colors that aren't alike, or are darker/lighter then each other, you might want to let it dry between colors so it doesn't get muddy.
You will want to use acrylic paint that you can get at the craft store.
After it has completely dried, peel off the letters. I had to use an exacto knife to get under the letters.
