I dont think the wealthy members of the society should have to pay less out (percentage wise) in taxes then everyday normal members of the society...to be honest the "lower classes" need the tax breaks more then they do! Our economy isnt healthy because no one has left over money to spend to help improve it.
Budget wise I do think politicians could use a pay cut. They are supposed to represent the everyday American and I think they are disconnected from what it means to be an everyday American. Maybe if they had to live on a tighter budget themselves they'd understand everything a lot better.

Sadly, most of them are already disconnected because they are wealthy upon entering office. They really wouldn't be hurting too much with a cut in pay. I am more concerned with their lifetime pension for serving one term and permanent healthcare. I am also starting to believe in term limits. Many politicians have been in office for 30 years or more, but continue to get elected based on name recognition. As for the president's salary, I don't really think it is that high based on what the job is.
Per the Constitution, they cannot change their salaries after they have been elected. This was put into place to keep them from raising their own pay, but works the other way as well.
Article II, Section 1 says the president?s compensation "shall neither be increased nor diminished during the Period for which he shall have been elected." The 27th amendment, meanwhile, says, "No law varying the compensation for the services of the Senators and Representatives shall take effect, until an election of Representatives shall have intervened."
Yes, I think politicians could use a pay cut. Apparently, they opted to have my teacher's salary cut by 3% instead. Jerk offs!
Mine was 10%, plus a freeze in pay steps, plus 20% contribution to health care, plus another 3% contribution to my pension apparently because my job is just too cushy as it is. Yes, this has all happened in one year. It sucks to have to tighten my own belt while politicians continue to freely spend our tax money.
I honestly think there should be term limits. Being a politician shouldn't be a career. You should run to make a difference and then get out after 8 years. Because by then, you have no idea what's going on in the real world, and only care about what money corporations are giving you so you can run again.

Yeah I hadn't gotten a raise since I can remember. It sucks!
I think there should be a salary cut for members of congress. They make way too much money for really not doing anything. There should be term limits for senators and representatives.
The president makes $400K which really isn't that much considering what he has to deal with on a daily basis.
If I could fix the budget I would cut government jobs that are non-essential. I certainly wouldn't cut teachers, firefightes, and police officers. They should not be getting salary cuts and some are in some states.
