Anyone else all over the place? I am so frustrated with this whole process. My 1 hour PP readings are all over the place - as low as 94 and as high as 140. My doctor only has me test 1 hour, not at 2 hours - but I've been doing that anyway, and my numbers so far have been less than 120 2 hours post (which is what I read that most of you have to do anyway).
Then I read all this stuff about how you can get different numbers on different fingers, how glucometers aren't all that accurate, etc, etc, etc. It's driving me insane. How am I supposed to know what's real and what isn't????????
I can't seem to find a pattern at all in what I eat - if I eat very carb light for breakfast (1/2 slice of wheat toast), I'm high. If I eat more carbs (grits), then I'm high. I haven't touched anything but water to drink for a week, I'm not cheating, and still - I feel like nothing I'm doing is making any difference. Even the insulin doesn't seem to be consistently helping.
This is making me nuts.
Re: Going crazy with stupid GD numbers
As my educator tells me, there is no exact science to this. No the readers are not fully accurate, and she tells me they can flucuate up to 15 pts! They look for patterns. I mean I have been trying to eat a bowl of bran flakes every night because they seem to be helping my fasting. Well today it was 110, yesterday 91. Is it because I ate them at 1030 instead of 11 last night? Could be, but there is no way to tell. You could eat the same thing, the same time, for a month straight and they will always be different.
Since I just did this last year, and I was all freaked out then, I said I am not going to stress it this time. It is what it is. I try something, if it's rediculous high (Which 140 is not a big deal as that number will usually drop within 10 mins) then I don't eat it again, or up my insulin next time I do want to eat it. I would honestly say that the stress can be more harmful to baby then the sugar. I had tons of high readings with DD1 and she came out just fine, at 7 lb 11 oz. Her sugar was like 63 when she was born, which is perfect for baby. Just try your best to enjoy your pregnancy. If you are taking insulin, all you need to do is up your dose by 2 units to cover what you are eating. It will go up anyway as you progress. I started at 5-10, now I take 74. Here with a month to go I hope to not reach 100.

I bounced around, especially when I had the flu.
You're right, there are a lot of things that can impact your numbers. It's all in the patterns. If you're consistently high, that's a flag. But a little variation is normal.
