Can anyone tell me if the Methodist Hospital in Med Center (where I plan to deliver) applies for both the birth certificate and social security cards on your behalf post labor? I was told that they handle everything. I know this is something I should ask on my hospital tour in a couple months, but just thought I'd get some feedback here. I'm trying to compile a hospital "don't forget" list and I know with everything going on I will most likely forget about applying for the birth certificate and social security card. I'm trying to avoid standing in long lines at social security offices and courthouses with a fussy newborn after the fact.
Re: Newborn birth certificate + social security card
My memory is very fuzzy re: SS card, but for the birth certificate they send in the info, but you actually have to apply to get a copy of it. It does not just get automatically sent to you.

You get a SS card. You do not get a birth certificate copy; they just submit the info.
Ummmm one year later and we still haven't gotten copies. Boooo bad mom & dad.
This depends on your company. My former employer would accept the Birth Facts document that you get at the hospital. My new employer requires an actual birth certificate.
