OB/ Midwife Recs delivering at Brigham, GBS + Please Come In!

Hello! I am wondering if anyone has any suggestions and loved their OB/Midwife.

My first baby was born with Group B Strep sepsis, pneumonia and meningitis and spent time in the BWH NICU. This was so difficult for me especially because we followed the CDC protocol to a T- we came in within an hour of my water breaking, was treated for 10 hrs in labor with antibiotics etc.. yet she still came out so sick. I was sent home from L& D 3 days prior 4 cm dilated, 100% effaced. In my opinion (and what seems to be my OB's along with every nurse I've encountered) is that there was a leak that was ignored. My OB has completely shut me out and is suddenly so distant not even answering regular questions. I don't think that I can go back there and said that they won't do anything differently next time.

Can anyone recommend a provider they thought was especially diligent and careful with treatment??

Any suggestions are very much appreciated. :)

  • So sorry to hear about your tough experience.

Where are you? I would highly recommend Harvard Vanguard in Quincy. I am happy to share more details and my experience - not sure if Quincy is feasible for you.

Also my friend works and went to One Brookline. They also deliver at B&W.

  • There are some doctors that I wouldn't recommend (I actually work in cord blood donation at the brigham and I've seen most of the doctor's deliver and how they are with their patients). I really like Dr. Zinner but she is not accepting patients right now so I am going with Dr. Katz if everything hopefully works out for me. Also like Dr. Ackerman, Dr. Girard, and for a midwife Stone-Condry.

  • We live in West Roxbury so we are only 15 minutes from BWH and Dr. Zinner. It seems she is very popular! I may consider waiting as we have a while before we try again, I just would like to be comfortable with the practice prior to the pregnancy. Unfortunately Dr. Girard was part of the practice that made the mistake:/ I will also check out the other docs, thanks for the recommendations!:)

I am actually going to look into HV in West Roxbury as well as One Brookline. Thank you so much!

  • If you are waiting and want Dr. Zinner then transfer to her regular practice or call and put yourself on the waiting list for her. I like Dr. Katz and also Dr. Cline is really good at that practice, Dr. Schueler (sp?) seems decent also. So overall it's one of the best practices that delivers at BWH. The other two docs at that practice I could do without (one is really good at what he does but cocky as hell). The other well I don't think she is that great. If you are going with midwifes the Brigham team is really good. I really like Stone-Condry as I stated before (she's very sweet, knows what she is doing, and takes her time with her patients). Best of luck to you!!

  • Are there any providers that deliver at BWH that work as a midwfe/doctor team?  I made an appt. with Dr. Ackerman who I heard is very good.  The only downside I heard is that a lot of pregnancies end in C-section.  I'm really looking for a natural birth, but with the comfort of knowing the baby is healthy along the way from a doctor.  Anyone have any recommendations?
  • The Harvard Vanguard in Quincy does a midwife/dr. team. I can't say enough great things about them. Joan Trueblood was my midwife and I just loved, loved her. She didn't end up being on for my delivery but the other two midwives were amazing!!! So caring, kind and patient. Asked lots of questions and kept me informed. Just what I wanted - and after 20 hours of labor and 3 hours of pushing - still had V-delivery.
