Pregnant after IF

WWYD? (F/U Beta hell, Ultrasounds, etc.)

I wrote earlier about my beta hell stuff and I was super appreciative of everyone's replies.

Today I went in (at 6w4d according to my FET date) for an ultrasound and they showed a empty sac measuring 5w.  My beta Monday was 2,029.  Today it jumped to 5,030.

My doctor suggested tentatively scheduling a D&C for the middle to end of next week, and a repeat beta for this upcoming Monday.  I'm on board with this, as long as there is no hope.

If there is a big jump again, is there any hope?  Should I ask for one more ultrasound on Tuesday if I get a big jump Monday?

Thanks so much for all of your continued help... I always lurk on here but never chime in because I don't feel like I'm "legitimately" pregnant since this has been so turbulent.  Sad

  • I'd ask for one more ultrasound on Tuesday, just to be sure.

I saw a small sac at 5 weeks 4 days.  RE felt it should have been bigger.  I go in again tomorrow ... my betas have been doubling (they were 2,000 at 5 weeks 4days).  I know he is going to scan me again Monday or Tuesday if the sac hasn't grown ... so I'd just ask for one more just to be sure and then you won't worry.

    I'm so sorry!! *big hugs*

  • I'm confused...your beta is doubling within the normal limits. And for a beta at that point, that is what you should be seeing. I would definitely ask for ANOTHER u/s before you have any procedure done.

Good luck to you! Big hugs!! I cannot imagine how hard that is.

Unfortunately, a blighted ovum can do exactly this ... cause numbers to double but no baby in the sac.  It's something my RE is concerned about with me as well (we'll know tomorrow).

  • I'm confused about that as well.  I wonder if it's just false hope.  That was just such a HUGE jump.  I figured 3500 for today.

Kali, when is your appointment tomorrow?  I'll be thinking of you.

I am so sorry for both of you ladies. That seems so cruel that our bodies can do that. I hope both of your babies are growing nice and strong. You will both be in my thoughts and prayers.

  • I'm so sorry you are going through this.  I actually came over here looking for an update on you, and this is not what I was hoping for.  I think at this point, doctors will rely more on ultrasounds than betas.  At least that's what I learned while going through this recently.  They are looking for consistent growth, h/b, etc.  I would try to get another ultrasound in a week or so and see what's going on.  (((hugs)))

  • I am so sorry you are going through this. If it were me, I would absolutely request one more ultrasound before doing any procedure, just for the peace of mind I think it would bring. Good luck and I am truly hoping for a positive outcome from this for you!

  • I'd definitely ask for another ultrasound.

Sorry, I don't want to scare you, but did they look for an ectopic pregnancy? My doctor said that even though they can see the sac in the uterus, it can happen that the baby is not in it, which could explain rising beta levels but no visible baby in the uterus.

I'm so sorry that you are going through this.

  • I am so sorry you are going through this.  If it were me, I'd ask for one more ultrasound before a D&C.  Miracles happen everyday and in order for me to be at peace about that decision, I would have to take a look one more time.

I agree with ashley. I would want to know, for sure, that there was nothing there before going in for the procedure. If I didn't, I'd always be thinking of the "what ifs".

I'll be keeping my fingers crossed !

  • Thank you ladies for all your replies... I can't wait to be a permanent (well, 9+ month) contributing member of this board!

I will ask for one more u/s before going for the D&C.  Who knows what could happen, and I want a clear conscience.

I've had several ultrasounds to rule out ectopic but I will also ask them about that, just to make sure... thank you for that!!
