Tylenol for teething? Help please!

DD is not quite 6 months (1 wk), but figured this would be a more experienced mommy board for this issue.

Did you give LO tylenol for teething?  If so, did you give it just one time on the really rough days?  DD is having a super tough day.  She is okay for awhile gnawing on the Sophie or a  teething ring but she is only satisfied for a few mins. Would love to hear your thoughts!

 TIA!

  • I've done it once, only with her pedi's go-ahead. She was up for 8 hours straight and screaming the entire time. Otherwise, I refuse to give her medicine just because she's having a rough day.

I'd try Humphrey's teething tablets first.

  • DD has two bottom teeth right now and prior to them coming in I did give her Tylenol for teething pain- maybe 2-3 times and they were very bad days/nights. I did the teething tablets first and when they didn't work then I used tylenol.

  • Reid is currently teething.  We did give him Tylenol once as he was so uncomfortable.  Mostly we understand that he needs more hands on time to help him feel better.  Do you have an infant carrier?

I am currently pregnant but when we need to go to the store dh will wear him in the carrier and also when he wants to do stuff around the house.  We face him out so he can see things and he really likes it.

I second this because E sits and positions her face so she can chew on the front of the Bjorn. It's a sanity saver...

  • We give these because the are all natural homeopathic.  DS loves them too and they help a lot.  We onlygive Tylenol if its really bad.  Right now he has 4 teeth coming in on top and he has been handling it like a champ with just the teething doses twice a day.

  • I have no problem giving my kid Tylenol when he needs it. He has ear infections all the time, so he gets it at least a few times a month. I never noticed him fussing from teething, but if I did, I would give him Tylenol.

  • I alternate between the teething tablets and tylenol/ibuprofen (along with cold teething rings, etc). The tylenol helps make him comfortable. I'm not going to withhold medicine if it's going to ease his pain.

  • If he's in pain, I have no problems giving him meds to feel better. I give him Advil (ibuprofen) now that he's 6 months though because it works better for us. It works like a charm and usually calms him down right away. I take meds when I'm in pain, so why wouldn't I give them to him when he's in pain?

  • I prefer to give tylenol over teething tablets. They were recalled last year because of inconsistent amounts of belladona. They have since returned to the market. However belladonna is pretty dangerous "natural" drug. In the old days, it was used to poison people. Also you have to be careful about over the counter "herbal" or "all natural" products because they are not regulated and don't have to go through the same testing as prescribed medications. So who knows what is in them. We use Tylenol when it gets really bad. Otherwise we stick to teething rings and frozen wash cloths.
