My baby is too young to "play" on a play mat, but I am assuming there can not be harm either if I do put him to lie down on it. Right? When did you start using one of these play mats, if you did use them?
Sorry for the silly question, but being a FTM I am overly cautious with everything. I probably have to chill out a bit, otherwise will go crazy...
Re: A question
I started putting M under his at about 4 weeks. He liked to lay there and look at the things dangling down. By 6 weeks he was batting at them and, at times, could get his hand hooked around a toy and swing in around. Which play mat do you have? I had this one: https://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2737988 and M loved it. He still plays with the pieces now and then.
And thank you all for not laughing on my spelling
After 5 years living in the states my English has gotten much better, but there are certain words (many) with similar pronunciation but different spelling that are giving me hard time.
Yeah, it would be bad if my son starts to lie this early....
I think it's a good idea because he'll be a little used to it when he is ready to bat at the toys/play on the mat. He'll probably look at the toys (or the crossbars - if they are colorful).
Don't sweat the spelling/wording. I was so happy when I could finally use the spell check on this site!
Actually now is a GREAT time to start using the play mats--particularly tummy time mats. Tummy time is VERY important to develop your baby's neck muscles and to prevent positional plagiocephaly (flat head syndrome).
Not to worry you, as most babies do NOT get this, but my son did (brachycephaly, a uniform flattening on the back of his head). So tummy time from an early age (once the umbilical cord falls off) is good. And there are great tummy time mats with mirrors and bright colors, which babies love.
And playing on his back is fine too... he can look up at the toys and kick and coo and it's fun.

We started using it right away for tummy time. Charlie hated tummy time at first, but we kept trying.
Charlie is allergic to egg whites and peanuts.
I have this one too and started putting my guy under it fairly early because he liked to watch the lights.
Hey... what happened to your "usual" profile? This one said this was your first post!
