So I posted a couple of weeks ago about how my ILs haven't shown any interest in LO yet.
DH talked to MIL a couple of days ago and she said that she, GMIL, and DH's aunt and uncle were going to come out in October (LO will be 9 months old).
Then she said that they will stay in Alexandria because they like it there (we live in Silver Spring). She said they were looking forward to seeing LO a couple of times. I can't imagine they will willingly drive through DC traffic to come see us every day, so we'll have to make the effort.
Then she said that she figured LO would be hitting the separation anxiety stage by then so they probably wouldn't be able to spend much time with him since he'd be clingy to us.
Ummmm, there is so much wrong with this. I know that I can't control their way of relating to our family, but it makes me sad. I am so glad that my parents adore LO and get cranky if they go more than a couple of weeks without seeing him.
ETA: We are suggesting to them that they stay in Bethesda or DTSS instead - they can have restaurants and shops to walk around and be near a metro station to explore downtown, and will be closer to us. I hope they go for it.
Re: IL update
I'm sorry that really stinks.
How long will they be there?
Any chance you could send them some hotels in Silver Spring?
On the plus, 9 months is a fun age and DS will be nice and active for your ILs.

I can't remember if you've mentioned this before or not, but is MIL just not a baby person? Because my mom really isn't and I've always known that. She lives 45 minutes away and rarely saw C for most of the first year (and when she did it was only because we went to see her). But, I really had to let it go because I still talked to her plenty and I know that babies aren't her thing. This past year has been entirely different - when she and C are together they are bffs.
I don't know if that fits your MIL or not, but it might be something to think about.
I'm so sorry. I know this is hard for you. My attitude when it comes to family peculiarities, is that it is what it is. I can't change someone set in their ways, I can only try to work with them. Usually that's good enough. At least that's what I tell myself. I am certain your DS is a delightful little fellow and will captivate them no matter how they are pre-disposed.
I think it's the distance thing. MIL is very baby-friendly to her other grandson, who's a bit older. Of course, my SIL lives right near her and is a single mom, whereas DH is self-sufficient and lives halfway across the country.
It is what it is :-)
once they meet your LO they may fall so in love, they'll never want to leave!
