Giving Meds Help :o(

My DS has been prescribed Zantac and I've tried every which way to give it to him with no success. I tried putting it in breast milk, the med paci, syringe, and dropper. He just raspberries everything out of his mouth and giggles. I know he has no idea what I'm trying to do or why he needs it. And I understand that for a BF baby anything other than breast milk is foreign for him. It's kinda getting overwhelming. :o( Any advice is welcome.

Re: Giving Meds Help :o(

  • M does best with a syringe and NO smiling! When we smile or talk to him it only encourages the raspberries. I squirt a tiny bit inside of his cheek and then after he swallows do a little bit more. We do it during bath time so he is a little more preoccupied. And I have to do 4 ml of antibiotics every night so its a long process.

  • We give him dissolved prevacid on a baby spoon. In the begining when he didn't get the idea I'd flip the spoon over in his mouth so he'd lap the medicine off it with his tongue. Now he is good at just eating it off the spoon like it is rice cereal or something. I am hoping this doesn't come back to haunt us making starting solid food harder but he doesn't seem to mind eating it at all.

  • I put Tylenol in a Bottle nipple with a dash formula
  • I give mine Vitamin D in a sippy cup with about 1/2 ounce of water.

  • Like pp said, try not to smile or laugh. We have DD's Zantac flavored grape and we just put it in a nipple and she sucks it right down.
  • i give it to B through a syringe. (easiest way for him) he actually opens his mouth waiting for me to put more in. hahaah but ive been giving it to him since hewas 2 month.

  • I put the syringe as far back as I can towards his cheek and give a little at a time.  Now he is taking Prevacid and I give it to him n the middle of the night when he has an empty stomach.  He is asleep, so he pretty much sucks it right from the dropper, I don't have to squeeze it.  Kind of like dream feeding. I give him his paci and lay him back down.  He doesn't even know I do it.
