Any feedback on pediatrician Dr. Beams in Columbia/Laurel? We just moved to the area and are considering this practice for my nearly 2 yo. The search function didn't bring anything up, of course!
I think there are a few of us here who go to them.
I like them very much. Dr. Khan is Dr. Beams' mom. It is just the 2 doctors, 1 nurse, and 1 receptionist. Everyone is very great. I believe Dr. Khan, Lisa the nurse, and Carrol, the receptionist have been working together for like 25 years. The emergency number goes directly to whichever doctor is on call, meaning it is not an answering service. I have never had a problem getting in for a same day sick appointment. The nurse has always given me great advice over the phone, if I was on the fence about coming in.
They split the days in the office between Columbia and Laurel, which they're about 20 minutes apart. So, some days of the week, they are in Columbia, some in Laurel. I think they have a couple of days with evening hours, but I don't know the days or hours (big help, huh?). And, supposedly they do Saturdays by appointment if necessary, but I haven't ever used Saturday, so I'm not sure how it gets worked out.
I do not see them, but have a friend (and fellow bumpie/nestie) who does- I know she did have a problem w/ the 2 doctors having different philosophies and going to one office and then the other and not having the chart be transferred from one office to the other I believe. I will see if she can hop on this thread to explain.
I can see this as a reality. They keep your chart at your "home office". The one you always go to. But, if you schedule a visit on a day where they are at the other office, the receptions usually asks if you're normally seen there and that gives them time to bring over your chart. If you go to your "non-home" office for a sick visit, they most likely won't have it.
Dr. Khan is about 60 or 65 and Dr. Beams is about 35-40.
I love Dr. Beams. We started going to her practice right before M turned 18 months old and my only regret is that we didn't start seeing her sooner! She has come in before on a Sunday when M was sick so that we wouldn't have to go to urgent care. (This was our first appointment w/her too). She schedules our sick visits herself so they have always been at the Columbia office. (I did call to schedule one once and it was at the Laurel office, but I didn't have any problems). She is extremely accessible via text, email and phone and I really value her opinion. Plus, she is more naturally minded and so isn't quick to just prescribe antibiotics when they aren't needed.

My LO isn't here yet, but we met with Dr. Beams and absolutely loved her. She's very personable and accessible and answered all the questions DH and I had when we initially met with her.
I obviously don't have any real feedback since we only had that initial meeting with her, but I know there are several ladies on this board who love her.
bumping from my phone. please pardon any typos and missing punctuation
My son goes to Dr.Beams and she has been awesome. he has severe food/environmental allergies and she has managed his care very well. She is super accessible and she never rushes us. I highly recommend!
