I am a book nerd. Since summer is out and I'm on mat.leave, I've been enjoying catching up on some "easy reads" - that's anything that is not a professional book, peer reviewed magazine, or textbook that's related to my job.
I finished the "Uglies Trilogy" by Scott Westerfeld (sci-fi). They were great and I couldn't put them down (and I see why my students loved reading them). I compare these books to "The Giver" by Lois Lowry.
I went through "The Bride Quartet" by Nora Roberts (modern day romance) in a matter of days. I'm finishing up another 2-book series by her.
I'm going to re-read all my "Shopaholic" books by Sophie Kinsella (modern day romance) AND re-read (yet again) my "Twilight" books, AND some of my favourite classics ("Women in Love" by DH Lawrence, "Wuthering Heights" by Emily Bronte, "Pride and Prejudice" by Jane Austen).
Oh and of course, there's the gossip magazines that I get from Costco and trade with my SIL every other week!
Anyone else have an "easy ready" suggestion? ![]()
Re: Read any good books lately?
I've read these three this summer, all easy reads and entertaining:
Room by Emma Donoghue
Wishful Drinking by Carrie Fisher
Bossypants by Tina Fey
Water for Elephants
Heaven is for Real
I also enjoyed the Hunger Games trilogy.

Would you believe I have read almost every book mentioned on this thread? All these ladies have great taste, lol.
I just finished a trilogy of books called the Wolves of Mercy Falls. Based on some of what you've read, I think you would really like them. Easy reads, likeable characters, and a good story line.
I think now I'M the one who will need a book recommendation, as I've read everything on my kindle wish list. You liked The Uglies?
I just started this today! Reminded me of Summer Sisters by Judy Blume (which is fantastic).
I also just read The Help. Usually I dont love the hyped up books but I couldnt put that one down.

This. I read all three in less than a week. They are very similar to the Uglies series - very dystopian but with another female protagonist. Loved them!
Well all 3 books I was going to recommend have already been mentioned: The Help, Firefly Lane and Water for Elephants!
I need to read the Hunger Games series too, especially since they are currently filming the Hunger Games movie right outside of my office!
I just finished reading Shanghai Girls, which was suggested in the previous thread. It was really good.
On my list next is "What is the What" and "Life" (Kieth Richard's bio).
