Single Parents

Hi...

I've posted here before but never officially introduced myself. I was an old nestie and I never thought I'd be here one day, but here I am.

I'm currently separated from my husband and 7 months pregnant. I'll be divorced by the time LO gets here. I've moved out of the house and am living on my own. I've actually left my job and moved to my home state where I can be closer to my family. I didn't know anyone in the state I was living in with my husband. We had moved there because of his job.

I'm currently renting a place and basically will be living on unemployment for a little bit.

I know I have a hard road ahead of me because it's really tough to find a job in this economy. I'm constantly thinking about mine and LO's financial future now.

My question is if any of you ladies know of legitimate online sites where I can work from home or maybe open my own small business?

I would return to corporate America, given the chance, but I'm not sure how that will pan out given this economy and I would rather stay home with LO for a while.

Thanks for reading and thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Re: Hi...

  • I just wanted to say welcome- I am expecting and going to be a single mom when this LO arrives.  I don't know of any work from home sites though, but good luck!

  • I've found that the best way in this economy to get a job is to use a temp service.  I've been hired straight out of one, My H did and several friends.

You could start immediately with a temp service, like officeteam, addeco, staffingpeople, and then when the baby gets here tell them you need 6-8 weeks and then they can get you in a long term or temp-perm position.  You won't make a lot but you'll be able to get by.

I was making about $12-$14/hr as a temp.  I have a college degree and several years of experience but when the market tanked and employment opportunies dryed up it was good to make something and then the company I was working for hired me outright and I jumped up signifcantly in pay and benefits....and the company saved money b/c 1 I was already trained, 2. they didn't have to pay the outrageous fees the temp service was charging and 3. they already know I'm a good worker and get along w/ my coworkers.
