Re: how many weeks was your baby born

  • I delivered my boys at 34 weeks after 7 weeks of hospital bedrest. It's happy because every week, the OB's would say it'd be a miracle if I was still pregnant the next week. I developed severe pre-e and had them via emergency c-section. Jack came out first at 5lbs 0.5oz and Ian was next at 4lbs 10.5oz. Ian was in NICU for 8 days, Jack for 23. Ian did so well that he was only a feeder/grower. Jack had some breathing troubles, but he wasn't on any monitors or oxygen when he finally came home. Today, they're doing great, hitting most of their milestones on time for actual age and are too stinking cute. We were very, very lucky.

  • Reid was born at 24 weeks.  We accidentally got pregnant in January before Reid came home.  I am currently 30 weeks pregnant.
  • Sam was 26 weeks. He was 2lbs 4oz and 13.5" long. He spent 94 days in the NICU. It's likely if more kids come, I will have to be on something to keep my anxiety in check.

  • Exactly 24 weeks. She was 1lb 7 oz due to IC.  We spent 139 days in the NICU. Although we had a rough start, life goes on. She is here, alive, thriving and a joy.

  • I too have diabetes (not gestational, the real thing :(  )and had pre e with LO, blood sugars are hard to get under control esp when pregnant.  Was on procardia for BP and LO was born at 30 &4/7 wga...doing well, is 7 weeks old, hopefully coming home this week :)

  • Channing was born at 26wks and 5 days due to incompetent cervix.  She spent 105 days in the NICU.  She had a Dr. appt yesterday and he told us "She's perfect".  There are lots of success stories on this board!
  • I delivered my Lo at 31 weeks due to IC. She was 3lbs 8oz. I did spend the last 6 weeks on hospital bedrest. She had a uneventful NICU stay and we are very grateful for that! Good Luck!

  • My girls were delivered at 27 weeks 2 days. A & C had a relatively smooth 78 day stay. V wasn't as lucky. She had IUGR and was only 1lb 2ozs (the size of a 22/23 weeker) when she was born. For most of her stay she has had she oxygen support. She had a PDA ligation to close a murmur after that we almost lost her. She also had laser eye surgery to correct ROP. Not to mention the countless IV's she's had for an infection, surgery, or to get blood. She really took one for the team.

Where is the happy ending in that? Well after 99 days she is 4lbs 5ozs and on minimal oxygen support AND is coming home in the next couple weeks.:-)

Having a baby in the NICU is no joke but I think there are more happy endings than bad. Good luck I hope your LO stays put for a long time.

  • My babies were born at 24w1d after 13 days of hospital bedrest and two rounds of indocin. We were very blessed with a relatively uneventful NICU stay - no surgeries, a few infections but nothing major, spent a while on the vents but came off easily, hit their milestones on time. They were there for 109 days and came home together 2 days before their due date. They are 3 weeks adjusted now and still on O2 at home, but at our NICU follow up appointment the doctor told us that they were doing "exceptional". I agree with him!

  • Our son was born at 26w3d.  He was 2lb 8oz at birth, and, after a very uneventful NICU stay, he was discharged after 70 days.  There are lots of happy stories out there.  I was amazed how many people shared their encouraging stories with us - it was like they came out of the woodwork. As the previous poster said, the NICU is no joke, but there are many many good outcomes.

  • I'm type 1 diabetic as well. pPROM'ed at 23w1d and delivered at 34 weeks. I was in the hospital on strict bedrest for 80 days. My son was in the NICU for 47 days on a CPAP and cannula. If you're worried about having another preemie look into progesterone shots and also start taking Vitamin C and D the entire time you're pregnant. And relax, your bloodsugars react to stress. Are you seeing a endocrinologist on a regular basis? I had to e-mail my sugars twice a week to my doctor so they could regulate my insulin:carb ratio.

  • bedrest since 13 weeks pregnant, delivered almost at 31. My boys were 3 lbs 14 oz and 3 lbs 12 oz. They didn't need really any help breathing. They were each on the CPAP for about a day to help with the apnea. They mostly needed to gain weight and were in the NICU for 6 weeks.

I am worried also for the next pregnancy. I know my dr. is going to want to do the same plan. (cerclage and bedrest) I have an IC and they don't want to take any chances.

  • I'm new here but I thought I would answer...

Reagan was born at 29 weeks, 1 day. I had severe pre-eclampsia. She was in the NICU for exactly 8 weeks. (Born on Easter and came home on Father's Day. :)  )

The day after she was born she developed a pneumothorax and popped her left lung and had to have a chest tube placed and the next day the other lung collapsed and she had to have a tube placed in it. Those were in for about a week. The rest of her stay was uneventful. Just had to gain weight and eat properly. She's almost 15 weeks old, 4 weeks adjusted. She's doing great so far.

  • At 27 weeks I had very insignificant amount of spotting, but called my doctor's office anyway.  They had be go to the L&D clinic to get checked.  The initially said they would simply observe me overnight.  I was 2cm dilated.  Then the doctor ordered a cervical scan.  The scan showed that my cervix was so thinned that it was not even measurable.  All the sudden the nurses swooped in and started an IV with Mag. Sulfate and antibiotics.  They were concerned that I could potentially delivery any time.  I had not realized that I had been having small contractions (I really didn't feel them).  Once I made it through the night with now major issues they moved me to the Preterm Labor unit.  I received the steroid shots for Sophia's lungs.  I spent 2 weeks on strict hospital bedrest (couldn't even get out of bed to shower).  When the labor started back up strong after a week they gave me trebutelin (spelling) and Indosin.  I was very closely monitored.  They did several biophysical scans on Sophia to make sure that her fluid levels were still good and she was moving well.  She never did "practice breathing" on the scans... so I was really worried she would have lung issues (thankfully she didn't).  Sophia was born on Monday.  Sunday night I had some stomach cramping and had to get up to go to the bathroom several times.  I sat in the bed and started timing my contractions.  I called the nurse in cause my contractions were 5 minutes apart.  She immediately restarted an IV with antibiotics.  The doctor came to check me and said I was progressing too far too fast to stop the contractions and I would deliver that day. The doctor had to rupture my membranes, as my water was not breaking on it's own.  Once my water was broken labor increased significantly.  *Sophia was born at 28 weeks, 6 days.  She weighed 3lbs, 3 oz.  She had a Grade 1 Brain Bleed, PDA, and infection.  She spent 6 weeks in the NICU.  She was intubated for 24 hours and one week on a nasal cannula.  She is doing wonderfully well now!!
