  • I had it. Its really no big deal. The antibiotics just go into an iv and you don't even know they are there.

  • Ah I'm sorry :( I tested positive too.

  • why is everyone who is GBS+ getting so worked up about the IV? At least at the hospital where I'm delivering, if you need them (I don't, I tested neg) it takes just 15 min for them to go through the IV and then that's it. I don't think anyone will labor for 15 min or less, so it wouldn't be the whole labor process you have them hooked up.

I just had mine and get the results next week. I'm only nervous because I'm allergic to penicillin, which is what they give you. I told DH if I do end up being + and I have a reaction to it while in labor, I'm gonna be pissed!!

  • I also tested positive.

The only thing that bugs me is that my doc says that if my water breaks then I have to head right for the hospital for the antibiotics vs. maybe staying at home to labor for a little while before heading in...

Otherwise, I think just the concept of 'testing positive' for something sounds freakier than it really is.

Ahh dammit, penicillin never crossed my mind. I'm GBS positive and allergic to anything ending in -cillin also. I wish someone would have warned me. My office's nurse practitioner is a complete moron and I've been forced to see her the last few times, she's no help with anything at all. There isn't a substitute for the penicillin? Because my allergy symptoms are life-threatening.

This is why I was nervous... I'm allergic to a lot of anti-biotics, including penicillin, and I'm worried about what the babies allergies would/will be, too... So... that was my only worry...
