Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Frustrating... DD trying to hold her own bottle.

DD has been trying to hold her own bottle, and she of course is not good at this, so we are struggling the whole bottle, because she pushes it out of her mouth, and gets upset and cries!

When are they usually able to hold their bottles without assistance?

  • Ugh, this is so where my LO is at right now too.  I'll be checking back for answers.  DH actually woke me up at 5am the other morning to tell me that LO reached for his bottle.  Usually he just pushes it out of his mouth so I guess that's progress.

  • DD can hold the small (4oz) bottles by herself.  She really only does it when she's really hungry and doesn't think I'm moving fast enough and has only been doing it for a few weeks.  I would assume by 6 months she'll be able to hold them by herself quite well.

  • leah's been attempting this.  she kind of just touches it and tries to get it deeper into her mouth, or she knocks it out.  but then gets mad at you when you hold it still for her.

  • DD1 assisted in the hold (meaning while we were holding the bottle her hands were also on it) around 5-6 mo but really didn't get the hang of it until 7-8 mo.

  • Mine has started holding her's, but she's EBF and only gets 3 oz, so it isnn't heavy.
  • Mine started at 3 months and is now 4 months and has it pretty much perfected.
