How/when did you choose LO's name? Did you have names picked our before you were even pg, decide once you found out the sex, wait until he/she was born to see which name fit...?

With both girls we were team Green and didn't have definite names picked out until they were born. We had ideas of names that we liked but felt like we couldn't make the final decision until we saw if we had a girl or boy and also what the baby looked like. It drive our families nuts since we didn't know what we were having and also we wouldn't share any of our name choices. With Zoey, we also considered naming her Mya, bit it didn't fit once she was born. With Liana, we also liked Charlotte and Violet, but Liana was always the top choice.

DH always wanted to name his daughter Julia but that's my name so that was a no. After Julia, he wanted Emily or Emma but they are so popular that I said no. Then I was watching Army Wives one day and realized the girls name was Emalyn (they spell it differently though) and I loved it because it was close to what DH wanted but still unique. We then decided that when we saw E for the first time we would decide between Teagan or Emalyn because we really liked both. The day we went to find out the sex and the lady said "It's a girl!", DH didn't talk for about 10 minuets and the first thing he said was "I am so in trouble". The next thing he said was while I was on the phone with my mother telling her it was a girl and when she asked about the name and I said we were waiting until birth DH goes "NO! Her name is Emalyn Mae". We do already have our names for the next LO picked out though. Teagan for a girl or Iden for a boy (I really hope it's a girl because I'm not crazy over Iden but DH is not budging!)

Well obviously my last name is Day (see sn) so DH had this stupid idea that if we had a girl, her name would be Holly. You get it, Holly Day (Holiday) gawdd he is so not funny! Anywho we basically made a list of 5 girl/boy names we liked. We both had 5 boy names and no girl names. Good thing we had a boy! On both our list was Cooper. I was shocked because I never knew H liked that name and I knew he didn't know I liked it. I picked Cooper because I heard it on Private practice and I fell in love with it. I also don't know any Coopers which is a plus. H just said he liked it. So we agreed Cooper would be the name. We told people and it was a hit! I just can't wait till Cooper gets older and ask why we named in Cooper, LOL I guess I will just have to say he was named after a goofy (oddly cute) peditriction from a television show.

Before finding out the sex we had it narrowed down to two boy names (Brady or Graham) and two girl names (Adrianna or Evelyn). When I went in for my gender ultrasound, the name of the girl that was called in right before me was Adrianna. When I heard them call this girl's name I knew my LO was a girl and I knew we would name her Adrianna.
Edit: Oh yeah, I'm totally lame and I got the name idea from 90210. The girl wasn't a crazy beotch back when we picked the name.
We were pretty sure we were having a boy, as there hasn't been a girl born in the Brown family for over 4 generations. Maybe more, we just don't know. DH really liked Samuel, but I can't stand Sam for a nick-name, plus DH has a cousin named Samantha that we all call Sam. So that was out. We had considered Calvin Maxwell, but then about halfway through the pregnancy I fell out of love with it hard core. We both had liked Elliott (think E.T.- Elllllliooooooootttttt), but didn't think it would work for a first name. For whatever reason I don't like male names that start with a vowel. So that ended up as his middle name, and we picked Simon while reading names from movie credits, no joke. We both didn't hate it, and then it grew on us. If we'd have had a girl it would have been Elliette (Elliott) or Charlotte, or Vivaldi. Because I liked the nick-nakes Ellie, Charly, or Vivie. LOL! I REALLY wanted Evelyn (Evy) but DH shot that one down quick. Lucky for Simon he's a boy!

We where team grean, and had Whitney Venessa and Lincoln Robert picked out. I was so certain it was a boy, and was shocked when they said "Its a girl!" I loved the name Whitney because it was unique to me, and i thought it was elegant, and not very common.
Unfortunatley I keep seeing these previews for the show Whitney starting this fall on NBC, and the character looks like a real hoochie. I hope the show fails. lol.
We both liked Eliana and Ella for a girl, but those names are waaaaayyyy too popular right now. I wanted a Hebrew name, but not a super commone one, and I also wanted something that wasn't so difficult to pronounce. DH wanted either an S or G name after his grandparents. So, we started reading through books of baby names. Simona was one of the first we saw and we both kinda liked it and it kept growing on us. The only boy name we could both agree on even a little was Jesse. We found out we were having a girl and made a list of the names we liked in Excel (I'm such a nerd). I started putting the names together and we decided on Simona Miriam (second name for my mom).
My best friend actually suggested our daughter's name about 4 years before I actually got pregnant. We were out wine tasting one afternoon (I live in wine country) and we went to a winery that had a Sawyer Zin after the winemaker's son. My friend suggested that would be a cool name when we eventually had a child as that also happens to be my last name. I agreed and tucked the idea back in my brain as it seemed like it would be quite a while before we had a child.
Anyway when we did get pregnant we decided not to find out the sex and to give the child my last name Sawyer as a first name and my partner's last name as last name so he or she would have both our names. We picked out middle names to go with the sex for a boy Sawyer Michael (my dad's middle name) and Sawyer Lorena (my partner's grandma's name). We were both secretly hoping for a Sawyer Lorena but neither of us would admit it until she got here. I hope she likes the name we picked out for her but if not she can always go by her middle name like her Baba (my partner).
I hope that wasn't too convoluted.
BTW I really enjoyed reading everyone's selection process.

Parker is my maiden name, for as long as I can remember I've planned on naming a son Parker. We went around and around with middle names until we decided to use Benjamin (H's name, and H's grandfather who we love). H thought Benjamin Parker sounds better than Parker Benjamin, so that's what we went with
It's kind of a pain in the butt for them to have the same first name, and for LO to go by his middle name, but not too bad.

My BIL's son is Gregory Lance Jr. but they call him Lance. It's pretty common among people we know.

I think that's really cool that she's named for each of her parents! Neat idea.

Are you a Private Practice fan??
For us, I created my own girl's name that I plan to use if I have a girl one day (it's not crazy, pretty simple, but not in any baby name books I've read) and our boy's name was going to have my late grandfather's first name as a middle name (poor kid would be tortured if Thaddeus was his first name) but I had no idea what boy name to choose. Once we found out we were having a boy my H suggested Jonathan simply because it's a strong name and there were many successful people in history with the same name. I chose to use the nickname JT so we can always honor my grandfather. However, we didn't tell anyone except my grandfather when he was dying - drove my family crazy too. It's amazing, but my Poppy took JT's name to his grave and never told my Nanny. He passed when I was 6 months pg.
We had the hardest time deciding. We knew we were going to find out and reveal if we were having a boy or girl, but we decided from the beginning that we would keep the name to ourselves until s/he was born. On the way to our ultrasound we decided on a girl's name that we both liked, but we found out we were having a boy!
DH has a HUGE family that gets together pretty often, and we did not want DS to have the same name as anyone in the family, so that narrowed things down. But, we both had very different tastes in boys names, so it was quite a battle. We bought name books, looked up name lists on the internet, and I downloaded an app for my ipod. We both made lists of names that we liked and then the other one ranked them.
About a week before we had DS we had it narrowed down to 2 first names with 4 different middle name combinations. We finally decided to just wait and meet him to figure out what his name should be. (Which is VERY unlike us, because we are both huge planners.) So, it was very easy to keep our name a secret, because we had no idea the whole time. When DS was born we both knew that he was meant to be Lucas Oliver.

DS is the 4th generation, his daddy, granddaddy and great-grand daddy all have the same name, James Dennis. He is originally named after the mayor of Calhoun County Mississippi (DH family is from there) and an uncle from way long ago.

LO is Benjamin Parker, but goes by Parker.
