baby weight

I have hardly lost any of the weight I gained while pregnant. Obviously the first 20lbs were super easy because my kid was 1/2 of that (9#15oz). But I am struggling with figuring out the best way to shed the rest. It has been 8 mos and I am frustrated. Has anyone lost it all?

Re: baby weight

  • With my first it took a little less than a year (just breastfeeding). With my 2nd it took about 14 months. This time I still have 10-15 lbs to go (at 11 months.)

  • I also have about 15 pounds to go after 11 months. I lost nearly 20 in the first four months then hit a plateau and am just now beginning to lose it again. This is my first but I am also an older Mom (I turned 40 3 months after DD was born).

Good luck and know there are many there in the same boat with you.

  • A is 5 months and I lost a ton of weight at first.  I was even lower than pre-baby weight.  Then I came back to work, my appetite has increased, and I have a desk job - so it makes it VERY difficult to get moving during the day and I've gained back about 20 pounds.  I would like to lose 15 to be that pre-baby weight.  I'm too cheap to join a gym and like food way too much.  I also found that skipping meals does not help the situation and I am known for skipping meals!

  • I lost the first big amount right away ...the last 10 lbs took an extra few months.  I was back to PP weight when DS was about 9 or 10 months old I think.  I didn't 'diet' - just watched what I ate (portion size, plus I eat pretty healthy most of the time too) and I also try to get out and get exercise daily - even just walking with the baby if I didn't have time for anything else.

GL .. everyone loses weight at their own pace.  Don't be too hard on yourself :)

  • I am struggling... It has been 17 months and I still have 16 pounds to lose. I know I have to run, but I hate running! It will be the death of me. Breastfeeding and walking has worked wonders for me. I gained 70 pounds with DS. 16 more to go! I also have started dieting to help with the last 16 pounds.

  • I used to be small Pre -preg, about 117 pounds.  I have never ever gotten back to that weight - one time whlie dieting and a flu I got down to 123, but I've been about 128 naturally.

I had to wait until the kids both were about 18 months before I could even find the time to diet and exercise.

  • Lurker, but I just had baby #2 so....  w/ the first one I lost it all plus 3 pounds (!) in 8 months w/ running and breastfeeding (I gained almost 50 lbs).  This time around I gained 40 lbs and I've got about 15 to go and baby is only 7 weeks old.  Not sure what's up w/ that - maybe chasing 2 under 2?
  • C is now 21 months. I am still not back to pre pregnancy weight and I do not think I ever will be. I was very petite. I am fitting into some clothes from before, and I am happy with my jean size so I am ok with where I am currently. I do not diet, but eat relatively healthy, and chasing a toddler around definately helps.

  • started at 200 pounds - 41 week weigh in I was 242.  Today is 2.5 weeks of new baby...and I'm down to 208.  But I'm a different shape entirely - all 8 (and maybe more) is in my tummy.  It's not a priority for me right now (healing is) but eventually I'll go back to running, swimming, and biking for next year's triathalon season.  I'll have a new cheering section!!

  • I put on 62 [yeah, shocked the he!! out of myself with that] because I had to abandon a very active lifestyle but I didn't abandon the eating habits that used to go with it.  It took me 12 months to lose about 50 lbs, through exercise and overhauling my nutrition.  I actually ended up eating a Paleo diet after I couldn't lose a thing with Weight Watchers, which had previously worked for me.  [Google Paleo if interested - mainly, no grains, no dairy].

The last 12 lbs have stuck on, and I'm on another kick now to shed them. I will say that in the last couple of months, things seem to have "settled" and old clothes are fitting better.  It's almost as if my tummy area had still been swollen and finally calmed?  I did have a csection.  Anyway, there is hope.  I remind myself it didn't go on instantly and it won't come off instantly.  My lower tummy will likely never be the same, but I hope I can at least get it close enough that clothes can cover the difference :)

  • I think it's going to differ per person. I gained 40lbs with Tristen and 2 weeks after I had him I was only 5lbs to my pre pregnancy weight.  Due to PPD, the anti depressants and what not.  But then the holidays came, and I was happy again and gained 15lbs.  I kept those lbs on until finally this year I made changes in my diet and started exercising.  Tristen will be 3 in October and I am 5lbs below my pre pregnancy weight, and the only thing I can blame the lack of weight loss on was pure laziness.  I lost 23lbs in under 4 months by just cutting calories and doing 20 minute work outs 3-4 times a week.  I never joined a gym, I never jumped on a fad diet.  I did join WW which helped me jump start my weight loss, but found MyFitnesspal.com to be a lot better for me.

  • I weighed in at 204 (which was a gain of 41lbs) when I was checked into the hospital. My LO was 9#15oz, so I lost 20lbs right away. But the last 20lbs have lingered. I discovered last night that my attitude about being able to do it had to change. I am pretty knowledgeable about fitness routines and I have been a fit person for most of my life, so why wouldn't I just do it. right? What I also realized was that I am actually only 15lbs from pre pregnancy weight. I just kept rounding up to 180 instead of counting the 2 lbs btw 180 and 178 as a success. Basically, my attitude sucked. I had always had the easiest time losing, especially in my belly, which was never a flabby part of my body. I have determined that I will absolutely not use a fad diet or specialty diet because I need to eat the way I want my LO to learn to eat. I also have begun to work out during the first nap of the day. One of my biggest issues is giving myself the time to remain sane. I put everyone and everything first all the time, and I lose out on things for myself. So, here goes, my bump-friends, I am on the road to health. The right way. Eat less, eat the right stuff, and exercise!
