Success after IF

If you have a toy kitchen. . .

Where in your house do you have it?

Anyone NOT have a designated playroom?

We don't - the kids play in the family room.  They share a small bedroom, so there's definitely no room in there for anything beyond small toys like books and stuffed animals.

I'd like to get them a kitchen or some other such "large" toy at some point, but I just can't come to terms with the thought of it being so prominent in the family room.

If anyone else is in a similar boat. . . can you post a pic to help convince me it will be okay? ;)

Re: If you have a toy kitchen. . .

  • Ours is in the kitchen (more specifically, in the breakfast area that is attached to the kitchen).

  • Well, we don't have it yet, but I will be getting one for DD for Christmas (to hopefully keep her busy when the baby comes!). And it will either be in the living room or in our kitchen/dining room space. We don't have much of a choice with our condo... So you will have to let me know how it works out. :)

  • We have what we call a playroom, but really it is a nook off our our family room so you can see the kitchen from the couch.

What about a little tykes grill set that you keep outside?

  • ours is in the playroom now, but it was in a small area off the kitchen until recently
  • We just got one for DD's 2nd birthday and it's very petite, made by Educo, and it fits perfectly in our family room/den.  We also don't have a play room and our kitchen is already stuffed to the gills, this is perfect because we spend the most time in that room and she's been "cooking" every day since.

  • We're obviously in the process of moving, so this doesn't apply anymore, but we had ours in the living room.  We didn't get one of the giant L-shaped ones, just a smaller one.  I put it under a pretty mirror next to the window, and I bought some pretty baskets to store all of the food.  And it is neutral colors (browns, beiges, whites), so it doesn't look too bad.  :)

  • We converted the dining room, which is attached to the family room, into a playroom and it's in there. You definitely see it right when you walk in the house but it is what it is!

After 2 rounds of IVF & 2 rounds of FET, we were blessed with identical twin girls!

  • We live in Southern CA.  Our home is small and the first floor is a very open floor plan.   We do not have a playroom.  DD has a toy box in the Family room and another toy box in the closet in her bedroom.   I was thinking of putting the play kitchen in our kitchen.  We ended up putting her kitchen in the hallway upstairs.  I took this photo from the guest room.  The door to the left is the door to the guest/DD's bathroom.

  • It would have fit in his playroom which is an extra bedroom; however, that defeated the purpose of being able to keep him entertained in the larger portion of the house where the family room and kitchen are and where we spend more time.  Otherwise, I felt I'd have to just sit in the playroom with him to monitor.

We moved the wine bar which no longer contains wine or wine glasses since he can reach both...and put his kitchen in our kitchen.  It is what it is, you can definitely see it walking in the house.

  • Here is his kitchen, he loves it.  Highly recommend the KidKraft Deluxe, I ordered it from Walmart for the cheapest price and it was here the next day.  And, he loves his Mellisa and Doug fridge and pantry foods I got him.

  • Ours is right off the kitchen: image

Excuse the chairs on top of the table, I put them on top when I clean the floors.

We don't have designated playroom either, so this is where it has to go.

  • Ours is in our Family Room since we're all in that room together all the time.  We put it on a wall that you don't initially see when you walk into the room to try to make it less prominent and we use a basket to store all the pretend food that comes with it.  Ours is pretty good sized but I don't think it makes the room too much of an eyesore and the girls love playing with it.
