Mrs.White

I think I remember that you had done the Mickey's Backyard BBQ in Disney one year. We are doing it this year for the first time and just wanted to know what you thought about it. DH heard that people line up early and I am not sure if we should plan to get there early or not. Did you get to meet any of the characters before or after? Belle loves Mickey and Minnie. I am really hoping that she isn't scared of them.

Re: Mrs.White

  • It's fun, we did it 2x. Once when Justin was about 7 mths and this past year when he was 23mths. My only complaint is it's looooooong. There is tons of character interaction- Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Chip & Dale come right out and the kids just have a huge dance party. We got lots of great pics. Then they take a dinner break. Then they have this rope show (which is cool for adults to watch) but the toddlers in our group were antsy to run around and dance again- plus they were all cranked up on all the free ice cream/frozen treats. Then the characters come out to dance again. On the way out- Mickey and Minnie were there for pics.

Yes, people get there early but not super early. Like 1/2 an hour would be just fine. There are no assigned seats- just picnic tables. You want to get a table close to the dance floor. If it's just the 3 of you it shouldn't be a problem. We had a group of 20 and had to worry about all of us sitting together.

Where are you staying? It's a long "journey" to the BBQ. I don't know if you've ever been to fort Wilderness but it's a series of bus transfers from each campsite area to get back to the actual BBQ and then quite a walk... remember that in your "travel time".

  • We're staying at Coronado this year. We have been to Fort Wilderness once for the Headless Horseman Carriage Ride and leaving was a nightmare. We waited an hour for a Hollywood Studios bus since the were having evening extra magic hours. We finally got one but it was so late that we just took the boat back to Beach Club. We are driving this year (DH's idea) so we will have our car and already planned to drive to Fort Wilderness.

My mom is going with us but it sounds like we will have no problem getting a good seat and I am glad that we can do a meet and greet with Mickey and Minnie. We plan on meeting them the first day at Magic Kingdom (Belle's birthday) but I'm not sure how she will do with them.

Are you going again this year?

  • We're going to Disney Oct 16-21st but not the backyard BBQ this time. I saw in the halloween post that you're doing the Not So Scary Party at MK. That was fun too! Great parade and even smaller lines than usual EM hours.

  • We did the Halloween party on our honeymoon in 07. I am really excited to take Belle for her first trip. I am excited to see all the work they are doing in Fantasyland, we haven't been thier since 08. I am sad that know that we have a daughter Toon Town is no longer there.
