Pregnant after IF

went to L&D last night

I had some cramping that went on for a while with intermittent stabbing pain in my lower abdomen. They hooked me up to all the monitors, which Graydon didn't like at all. I had a few contractions while there but hard to tell how many bc Gray kept kicking the monitors and flipping around the measurements were all over the place. My cervix was long and closed but my potassium levels were off and I was dehyrated (after drinking a gallon of water daily). I was told to take it easy but they let me go after a couple of hours.

It was a nice little run through that we were not prepared for. DH kept saying "I haven't read this part of the books yet." We are all doing good this morning just really tired and relieved. This was our first issue with this pregnancy, we have been incredibly blessed.

Re: went to L&D last night

  • Yikes. That sounds scary. How could you be dehydrated after drinking so much water? I'm glad you are ok now.

  • i'm so sorry to hear that. it's so scary to go in, you don't know what they are going to say!

i'd like to add, i drink a gallon+ of water daily and i've been told the two times i've gone into l&d that i'm dehydrated. wtf?! i asked my doctor and he said i'm getting enough water, but both times at l&d doctors told me to increase my intake! so i added a 32-ounce gatorade each day and so far it's helping.

hope you have an easy day today and feel better!

  • I'm sorry you had a scary night. Good to hear you're both fine.
Forever my grandma would make us drink lemonade with a pinch of salt or eat watery fruits instead of just drinking water during the summer. I think its the imbalance of minerals that can get you in big trouble.
So it makes sense to me. The books say count all fluids except those with caffeine. I'll be asking this next appointment. I'd like to know what your OB says.

  • I'm sorry that happened :( Scary. Great news that your cervix is long and closed, though! Hopefully this is just a one-time thing.

FWIW I'm ALWAYS told I'm dehydrated even though I drink so much water I'm practically floating and my urine has virtually no color to it. I sometimes think that there are very few things that they can recommend so they just say "uuhhhh drink more water. Get more rest." Oy...
