Hand swelling- anyone?

For the last few weeks, I've had the strangest hand swelling in the morning. My hands get really hot and achy, then swell up. They swell so much that I can't close my hand all of the way and parts of my fingers feel numb. The first day it happened I thought I was going to have to get my wedding ring cut off it was so bad. I can usually slip my ring right off, but I can't even turn it right now. After a few hours, it always goes down.

At first I thought it was an allergy and took benedryl, but I'm not swelling anywhere else and I'm not doing anything differently. I googled and found nothing, I have low blood pressure, no diabetes, I'm not overweight, I just don't get it. I'm going to call the doctor if it doesn't get better, but I was wondering if anyone has had this. It's just so weird.

  • It could be from your neck, I have the same issue my mom does too.  It has to do with how we sleep and a problem with a disc in our neck.  It's something called radiculopathy. Is it painful at all?

My neck isn't, but it did start around the time I went to the chiropractor. He said I had a disc in my neck turned the wrong way and he tried to pop it back into place. The x-ray showed it completely turned and the dr said it was restricting blood flow. Maybe he messed with something when he tried to correct it. I'll call his office today to see if he thinks that could be the cause.

    Thanks!!

All it takes is a little impingement there or you sleeping a certain way and it can cause that problem.  My mom wakes up daily with her hand asleep and swollen. It gets better has the day goes on.  Mine is more sporadic and I can avoid it if I am careful about how I sleep.

I just looked it up, and it sounds like it could be it. I always sleep on my stomach with my head turned, so it's probably the way I'm sleeping. I'm going to break out my old pregnancy pillow tonight and see if it makes it go away. I'll be so excited if this fixes it. :)
