Pregnant after IF

XP: long lupron vs antagonist...

hi ladies...i also posted this on SAIF...was wondering what your protocol during your ivf cycles were and which one worked for you ...and if you did more than one at what point did your doc switch it up?

did a long lupron....made a nice amnt of eggs...all but one arrested by day 5 and tested abnormal with PGD.

same doc is suggesting long lupron again with diff drugs...and another (sec. opinion) is suggesting antagonist ....confusion....

thanks ladies!

Re: XP: long lupron vs antagonist...

  • My diagnosis is endo and slightly elevated FSH.

On Long Lupron (with 225 Follistim) I think I had something like 8 mature eggs, they all fertilized, we transferred 2 3-day and froze 2 blasts. My IVF was negative. Transferred the 2 frozen blasts 3 months later and had a c/p.

On antagonist (with 450 Follistim) I had 10 mature eggs, 7 fertilized, we transferred 2 blasts and froze 4 blasts. That IVF ended up with ectopic. We transferred 2 of the blasts 6 months later and now I'm pregnant with a singleton.

I'm not sure if Lupron v. antagonist made any difference, but admittedly, after one failed IVF it felt good to try something different.

    Best of luck to you!

Me: Stage II endo, borderline high FSH
    DH: perfect
    1 lap, 5 IUIs = 4 BFNs and 1 c/p
    2 IVFs, 2 FETs = 1 BFN, 1 c/p, 1 ectopic and finally a sticky BFP in May 2011!

  • For me, I personally had much different response and results with LL vs. antagonist.  Our diagnosis is unexplained IF.

For my first cycle we did LL protocol and the IVF w/o ICSI.  I had 13 mature retrieved, but only 4 fertilized and by day 3 we had two that were doing ok.  We transferred them, none to freeze.  IVF1=BFN.

For IVF2 we did ICSI.  Still LL, slightly higher dose of Gonal F.  14 mature retrieve, all ICSI'ed, 5 fertilized.  Transferred 2 on day 3, froze 2, got a BFN.

For IVF3 we did antagonist and ICSI.  Slightly higher dose of Gonal F.  19 mature retrieved, 13 fertilized and all 13 continued to divide.  Did a 6dt of 2 hatching blasts, froze 2 others that were hatching blasts  (the others didn't make it to by clinics freezing standards) and am now pregnant with a singleton.

Now, for #3 I also changed my diet slightly, did meditation and took vitamins with CoQ10 for a few months beforehand.  I don't know if any of these things contributed to the increase response, fertilization, etc., whether it was just the change in protocol, whether it was just luck or what.

Good luck to you.  I hope that this next cycle is your bfp cycle!
