Bringing little ones to the movies....what do you think?

Regal Cinemas offers a summer promotion for $1 movies at 10 a.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Tomorrow they are showing Cats and Dogs, or The Muppets.

Would it be frowned upon for me to bring the baby? Leah just sleeps, eats, and poops. If she's up, she's generally pretty happy. I could put her in the mei tai sling and she'd snuggle up the whole time (1.5 hours-I checked.) I can just nurse her there.

Joey could go either way.He doesn't really do well in new situations...but if I can get him through the first few minutes with snacks he might be just fine.  I do wish it was a cartoon type of movie, it doesn't look like these are. This would be my first time in public with both at once, by myself. This could be very very bad but if it is I could walk out and I'd only be out a couple bucks.

So what do you think?

  • We took SD to see Toy Story 3 when Collin was just a little older than Leah is now. We sat in the back row of seats on the ground (not on the risers) and I sat on the aisle. He did fuss once, but I was able to stand up behind our seats without blocking anyone and rock him. It worked very well. Had he not quieted I would have left the theater, but I had DH with me. Losing a couple bucks wouldn't bother me, but how would Joey take it if you had to leave in the middle? That would be my only concern.

He's the one I'm most worried about having to leave early for : ) As long as I can nurse Leah I think she'll be quiet. But your post has me planning my seating strategy--good thinking!

  • I took Emory to a movie at 3 months and I took him yesterday at 6 months.  I sat in the first row by the door both times.  The first time, he slept and nursed and was fine for the whole movie. This time he slept the first quarter, nursed the 2nd quarter, I had to change his diaper during the 3rd quarter, and then he slept again during the 4th quarter.  He fussed for a minute and I just went to the doorway of the theater and bounced him. It was definitely not as relaxing as going alone, but it was totally possible.  Although after typing this, I realize I have no idea how I would do it with two.
  • I'm sure its do-able, but I probably wouldn't go to all that trouble unless it were a cartoon type movie that I'd be sure Joey would be into.  Maybe you can take them to Winnie the Pooh?

  • We did it and it went great!! We did not make it to the end but we also had no tantrums so I consider that a win!  We lasted an hour and 15 minutes and he very politely told me "All done cats and doggies mommy." so worth $1! I am so proud of him, he really impressed me with his good listening ears   : ) Leah nursed and snuggled the whole time.

  • Yay! So glad it worked out for you!
