Finding out the Gender at 15 weeks?!

Hello all! I had my first appointment with the high-risk OB today after my 2nd u/s last Wednesday. (All is well with baby!) I have a 3rd u/s scheduled for August 30, and I will be a few days shy of 15 weeks. She told me that we could find out the baby's gender at that appointment. Does that seem really early to anyone else? She's a great doctor, and I totally trust her, but I just thought I'd see what y'all thought!

P.S. Don't get me wrong, I'd be super excited to find out a month early, but just a little skeptical! :)

Re: Finding out the Gender at 15 weeks?!

  • Are they doing the level 2 ultrasound?  Those are far more detailed and are probably more likely to be able to tell gender.  I've heard some people finding out early...mostly for boys.  ; )

  • Some people are getting the gender at their 12 week NT u/s so it wouldn't suprise me.

  • 15 weeks doesn't sound early to me. I have known ladies who have found out at 16 weeks.

    Good luck!

Fifteen months is usually the opening of that window. If it's not clear enough to determine for certain, they'll just confirm at the next appt.

Bahaha, I sure hope I don't have to wait until 15 months!!

  • Thanks for the input, everyone! Good to know that I'm not the only one to find out early! I really hope they can tell then--I'll let you know!
  • My Be Fri went in for one at 14+ weeks, and we were looking at the screen and BOOM!  We both go-  That's a BOY!!!!  The tech said she could neither confirm nor deny, but we were Totally right!  The "down under" parts are developed then, but there can always be mistake.  I'd be pretty confident, if you find out.  But wait to buy a pink crib till confirmed.  LOL;0)

  • I just had my NT scan 2 days ago at 12 weeks, and she saw what she felt were the making of a boy, but again couldn't confirm

  • I'm going to ask the tech to peek at my 12 week appt on Mon but I doubt they'll be able to tell for sure.  But I wouldn't be surprised if you could see at 15 weeks.
