Cloth Diapering

Another novice question: re cloth wipes - how to store?

I am imagining the changing area. I have my wipes, size 8x8. Do you store them in a solution/water? Or do you wet each one each time you change the diaper?

(I swear, I am not an idiot even though I too am stunned by my ignorance here.)

Re: Another novice question: re cloth wipes - how to store?

  • Different mamas like different things.  A lot wet as they go with water.

Some store in a wipes warmer with solution, just be sure if you do this, you change out the wipes often and use distilled water in your solution to prevent bacteria growth.

I do a mixed method.  For poopy dipes I use wet wipes from the warmer, for just pee, I will wipe DS down every other diaper change or so.  I use California Baby Diaper Area Spray.

  • I through mine into a container and then wet with a peri bottle when I need one.  Some people do store them in a wipes warmer or container prewetted.  It's whatever you want to do.  I use plain old water.

  • I store 2 days worth dampened with water in a disposable wipes container.  I fold them so that they pop up one at a time just like the sposies do.  We just use baby washcloths, so they fit perfectly this way. I clean out the container when I do diaper laundry (every other day).

After the initial wipe, I spray a diluted solution of water and California Baby Diaper Area Spray on LO's bottom for extra cleaning and then wipe with a fresh wipe to finish him up.

Don't feel dumb, it took me awhile to come up with a solution that works for us.

  • I am far to lazy to keep a box of wet wipes. I stack my dry wipes next to a squirt bottle with water mixed with CA baby wipe spray. We wet as necessary when changing, so easy.

I will say that in the beginning my DS was super sensitive to any kind of solution or soap, so I really recommend just using water on your tiny newbie.

  • I keep them in a reusable shopping bag hanging from our changing table.  I have a spray bottle of water that I use to spritz the wipes before using them.

  • Everyone is different.  I keep a days or two worth in a wipe warmer with water, a squirt of baby wash, a couple of drops of tea tree oil, and a couple of drops of grapefruit seed extract.  I change the water whenever I do diaper laundry which is every other day.
  • I keep them dry in a basket next to the changing area.  I use a peri bottle filled with water and a squirt of CA Baby wash, and wet wipes as needed.

This, except I make my own solution with water and Aveeno Baby Wash.  It took me awhile to figure out what worked best for us too, so don't feel like you're asking dumb questions.  You kinda have to wait and see what works for you once baby gets here.

  • I have them in a basket next to the changing pad. I spray Kissaluv Wipe Spray all over booty and wipe with the dry wipe.

  • DD poops at least twice a day and I do laundry every other day so I keep half my wipes wet each day. I throw any unused in the wet bag at the end of the night.

  • We keep our wipes dry in a basket next to the changing table. I use a spray bottle with watered down CA Baby diaper wash and spray that directly on DS. Then I use a dry wipe.

  • I store them dry & use a spray bottle on the mist setting to wet baby each change.  Our changing table has 3 small drawers at the top & I use the one on the right for wipes since I'm right handed & it's easiest for me to reach there during changing.  I use honeychunks (2) in water as a spray for the pee diapers & BG bottom cleaner spray for poop diapers.

Storing them wet just seems like more of a mess than I want to deal with.  Plus it seems like a potential mildew situation if they are sitting for several days.
