Parenting after 35

Really? Every freaking morning?

DD apparently takes after me and is NOT a morning person.  Every single day she wakes up and cries for mommy, cries if I don't pick her up right away or when I put her down to accomplish some portion of the getting ready routine (dressing, breakfast, etc), fights getting a dry diaper, and fights getting dressed.  I find it exhausting to handle every single day.

I would guess that she fights getting dressed because she doesn't want to go to daycare, but DH usually does drop off and he said she has been pushing him out the door lately.

Then in the evening, she fights getting a clean diaper and changed into pjs before bed.  On bath nights she sometimes fights getting into the bath, but once she is there she enjoys it and is all smiles and happy when I get her out.  As soon as we head to her room and I lay her on the bed for a diaper the fussing begins.

Is this just life with a two-year old, or have we may some major error somewhere that makes her not like changing clothes?

DD1 is 3, DD2 is 1.

  • Yep... you have a 2 year old.

Charlie's pretty much the same way sometimes.  But his manifests itself into naked running man.

  • Sounds like she could be strong-willed and just wants things done her way. I don't think she doesn't want to get dressed in the morning because she doesn't want to go to d/c - she can't think that far in advance.

  • Sounds like my exact life with a 21 month old.. he would rather be naked than have to put on a diaper.  It is like I am torturing him.  Wrestling with a toddler..harder than I thought!
  • I think as soon as they can wiggle free that they will and want everything just flapping in the breeze.

  • When my youngest brother was 4, he'd strip down as soon as he got home from pre-school. He wouldn't be in the door but a minute before this happened. I swear he'd start in the car.

  • It sounds like a 2 year old control thing.  She wants to be in charge of what's going on.  You might give her choices like, does she want her socks on first or her diaper?  Giving a little control sometimes helps.
  • Sounds familiar.
  • Margaux is good about mornings, as long as she can decide when she wants to get up.  Evenings definitely take two grownups, lately.  :(
