Seriously, I feel like no matter what I eat I get heartburn lately. At first it was spicy foods so I cut that out. Then anything carbonated, so no more ginger ale. Then anything acidic, bye bye orange juice... I get heartburn from everything from peanut butter and jelly to carrot sticks! WTF! I've also cut back on my portion sizes thinking that was the problem but it doesn't seem to help. At least I bought the giant sized bottle of Tum's at Costco!!

Re: what DOESN'T give you heartburn?
I find that anything with a lot of sugar (like jelly) makes my heartburn absolutely miserable. I'm also in pain if I take big gulps of water too soon after I eat. Milk and whole grain crackers or bread seems to help me though.
Off topic: It looks like we have the same due date!
Well a least I have company. I got heartburn from WATER!
I read that as the baby gets bigger your stomach gets squished, opening the muscle that closes off the stomach and esophagus.
I had a string of days last week where ANYTHING caused heartburn. Eating, going too long without eating, drinking water, any food. It was maddening.
I ditto the Zantac rec. Check with your OB, but mine said it was fine. It was a godsend for me a couple times b/c I couldn't even eat. Gaviscon tablets work well also, but aren't as good before bed (something about how they form a protective barrier at the top of the stomach, the pharm said) so keep that in mind.
I get heartburn from everything.... Water, juice, milk, food in general... I literally battle it all day and then give into zantac before bed so I can sleep and not choke all night long.
So there's this boy. He kinda stole my heart. He calls me "Mom"

I am actually on kid number 2, and the heartburn got so bad this time that I am now on prescription for Protonix. Max strength Zantac twice a day was barely doing anything anymore. I felt like I was choking to death every night. With baby number two, apparently the heartburn is worse from things being all stretched out from the last baby.
Good news is my heartburn was gone one day after deliver last time.
I had macaroni & cheese for dinner last night & I felt like my face was in FLAMES when I went to bed... heartburn SUCKS! I feel your pain.
I have GD so my diet is a little limited, but I've found that cheese, banana or vanilla yogurt usually helps mine go away (obviously last night was an exception!). I've also found that the more water I drink, the more it burns.. although pre-pg that provided me relief usually.
Neato!!! Haha I have a friend with the same due date and another who had a son on the same day last year, weeeeeird!
How long does Zantac take to work? I like that I can take Tums and it helps within an hour but I'm almost worried with how many I have been taking lately! I'm popping them like candy lol
Maybe 30-60 min? I think they say to take the Z before meals if possible.
While Tums are safe, AFAIK there CAN be issues with taking *too* many of them so if they aren't cutting it for you I would upgrade to something stronger.
Tums are about it at this point.
